Page 28 of Hell Fae Captive
Apparently, I would have to find my own way.
Going by memory, I started walking again while scanning the night-clad academy turned prison for anything that might slink out to attack me.
The trembling ground had subsided, but an eerie silence had fallen in its wake. The way a forest grew quiet when a predator lurked nearby.
Hunting its prey.
I picked up my pace, occasionally glancing back at Melek, who continued his lazy stroll on those long legs, easily keeping up with me. An infuriating smirk seemed to be on permanent display, as if he found amusement in my mad dash to safety.
He’s definitely not here to help,I decided.
Perhaps he just wanted to watch me die.
Sick fuck.
Gripping the book against my chest, I vowed not to let any of these assholes benefit from my suffering. If anyone was going to die here, it wasn’t going to be me.
So all I had to do was make it to my room. Maybe the angel-faced dick would give me the consolation prize of opening my door.
The dorm building had to be around here somewhere. It hadn’t been that far from the library, and I remembered the direction I’d come from.
Yet nothing looked as it should.
The residences are definitely this way, I thought. So where are they?
A familiar building loomed to my right, the spires swirling with familiar magic, stirring a strange sense of déjà vu.
That’s the library.
Am I going in circles?
Fuck this shit.I couldn’t afford to lose my sense of direction when I knewsomethingwas out here stalking me.
“Where the hell is my dorm?” I demanded as Melek strolled up beside me and brushed his arm against mine. My skin flushed in response, his warmth a beacon that made me want to curl against him.
However, his expression made me want to punch him instead.
Rather than respond, he appeared to be holding back laughter.
Right. Definitelynothelping, I thought sourly.Well, then I’ll just have to use the book.
I blinked.
That was a strange deduction.
But it felt right.
Weird. But then an idea hit me square in the chest.Breadcrumbs.
Opening the book, I found a blank page waiting for me and ripped it from the spine.
Melek stiffened beside me. Then he sighed as though relieved when the book grew back another blank page.
Ignoring him and the magical book, I began to rip up small strips of paper and dropped them behind me as we walked, leaving a trail. It didn’t take long for me to find the scraps of paper lying on the ground in front of me, confirming my suspicions—I was definitely going in circles.
Stopping in my tracks, I glared at Melek. “What are you even here for?” I snapped. “You just watched me walk in circles and didn’t even bother correcting me.”
“You figured it out.”
