Page 63 of Hell Fae Captive
“A very powerful and useful pet,” he clarified. “Because I was able to link my soul to hers.” His multicolored eyes held a note of severity that demanded my focus. “Think beyond the rage, my love. Consider why andhowI could do that.”
I ran a hand over my face, my desire to bend him over the bed and fuck him into submission riding me hard.
Not just because I wanted to punish him, but because I wanted to reclaim him.Mine. Melek is mine. And I didn’t want to share him in this way.
No. It wasn’t even that.
Sharing had never really been an issue between us, more of a lack of interest in others.
It was his soul I worried about. His soul that would fracture if something happened to the girl. Which made me want to pluck her out of that cell and put her in a glass cage for the rest of her existence, just to keep Melek’s spirit safe from potential injury.
“Ty.” He stepped toward me, and I took a step backward, conflicted.
“When I bonded Az, we spoke about it,” I told him. “Youagreedto it.”
And it wasn’t a sexual bonding so much as a familial one.
I didn’t necessarily see Az as a brother, but rather, as a friend I needed to protect. He was too powerful, his energy threatening to consume him. Linking him to me provided him with an outlet for some of that all-consuming power.
But I’d spoken to Melek about it before engaging in the bonds.
Fuck, he’d even been there for each level.
“You just linked your soul with this captive without any regard for me. Forus.”
Melek’s irises flared to life with raw power. “Everything I do is foryou, Typhos.Everything.” He went ethereal again. “I understand you’re upset. When you’ve overcome this tantrum, let me know. And we’ll talk.”
He engaged his power and winked out of existence, eliciting a flurry of curses from my lips.
He dared be mad atme? He was the one who had acted recklessly, putting himself at risk. A risk I refused to accept. A risk that made my heart hurt just thinking about what it might do to him.
I gaped at the space he’d just occupied.Melek.
No answer.
Not even a whisper of a sound.
Because he’d blocked me from his mind.
Another growl built in my chest, the source pulsing in my veins. I grabbed onto a random chair in the lounge and closed my eyes, trying futilely to calm my rapidly beating heart.
“Use me,” Az said softly. “I can take it.”
“No,” I gritted out.
I would not shove this angry energy into him, not when he needed me to ground him. I’d been his anchor for over a millennium.
Admittedly, it’d become harder as my own powers continued to grow, but I could handle it. I could handlethis. I just had to breathe and shove it back down. Feed it back into the source. Let it swirl and burn.
I swallowed, my muscles tensing as flames threatened to engulf me.
Contain it, I told myself.Just gently spin it back into the web.
My teeth clenched as I focused on weaving the abundance of hot energy back into the Hell Fae Source. It gave me the distraction I needed, calming my racing heart and allowing me to breathe.
Melek took a mate.
A female.
