Page 13 of Forever My Siren Luna
Before I could ask, Jack asked a different question.
“King Brennus? As in, the Siren King?”
Crap. I forgot that he was unaware of my siren lineage.
I sighed, looking back at Jack, and he was staring at Cedric curiously too. He probably sensed what Cedric was. A siren in the mix of a bunch of Lycan warriors.
Screw it. All these men must know by now who my father is. I trust Jack as much as, if not more than them. I might as well tell him.
“Yes, Jack. My father is apparently the Siren King. A fact I was not made aware of until the day I ran away.”
His eyes go wide, a huff of disbelief leaving him as he covers his mouth. “That explains a lot.”
I furrowed my brows, about to ask what he meant, but before I could, a scent I could recognize anywhere enveloped me, making my pupils dilate and Val to growl in my head. I feel his eyes on me, piercing into the back of my head.
Jack’s expression turns disgruntled as he stares at someone behind me; someone who is huffing and panting loudly, as if he ran all the way here.
When I turn slowly to confirm what I already know, the sight of him makes everything inside me clench and pulse painfully like a punch to the gut.
Lachlan.
Five
I didn't know what to say or do when I saw Lachlan panting breathlessly at the start of the dock, his chest heaving like he pushed himself to the limit to get there as fast as he could.
His face was more aged, worn with stress. His eyes are wide in disbelief, and I can see Killian shining in them, making Val lose some of her malice with a soft, almost inaudible whimper inside my head.
“Lira,” he whispered hoarsely, moving to walk quickly towards me.
I stood frozen, not sure what to do. Everyone moves to give him a clear path, but before he can reach me, just as he steps past Cedric, Jack moves to tuck my body behind his.
“That’s far enough, Alpha,” Jack warned Lachlan, his aura pushing out of him, stronger than I ever felt it before in defense of me.
A menacing growl leaves Lachlan. “Move.”
“Not a chance. Though, I’m sure my Ela could handle herself, I don’t like the crazed look about you.”
“MyEla?!” Lachlan snarls. “She’s not your anything. She’smywife.”
Jack hums deeply in his chest, eyeing Lachlan as if he is measuring him up.
I never told Jack why I ran from here, or what exactly Lachlan did, but he knows I’m not fond of my husband and mate. He can probably guess that this man hurt me.
He just doesn’t know how deep.
As Lachlan and Jack face off, I start to get my composure back. I knew I would be facing him. It shocked me at first, the bond suddenly hitting me again with the intake of his scent and seeing him for the first time. Val and I are getting it together now. We came here for a reason, and it wasn’t for Jack to have a pissing contest with my disgruntled mate.
There are many more important things to tend to right now.
“It’s okay, Jack,” I sighed, pulling his arm, so he stepped out of my way.
“But, lass. He looks ready to….to hurt you,” Jack hissed in my ear. His close proximity to me makes Lachlan’s face more fierce as he observes us.
Before, that expression would have sent fear through me. Now, I smirk, knowing he can no longer hurt me. Val knows how to handle any threat made to me, and just because we once held affection for this man, it doesn’t change the fact that she can send him to an early grave if she needs to.
“He never laid a hand on me,” I softly replied to Jack, eyeing Lachlan with a mix of different emotions before turning all my attention on Jack in full-on big brother mode. “I doubt he will start now.”
Lachlan has hurt me in many other ways, but he still never laid a hand on me. I no longer trust him, but I do trust his inability to hurt a woman he sees as weaker than himself.
