“Yeah, it is. I'm not just doing it for you, I'm doing it for me too. I think it's time we take a break on all of that until you have a clear understanding of where things stand between us.”
“Excuse me?”
“You heard what I said. You said you needed time to sort things out. You can’t do that if I’m always inside of you. That clouds your judgment. We both know that.”
“Okay, I get that, but can we at least—”
“No, we can’t,” I said, laughing. “In fact, we shouldn’t even be having this conversation right now. We’re supposed to be on our professional shit, remember?”
“Yeah, well, obviously that went out of the window a long time ago. I try to be professional around you, but it doesn’t work. I keep falling into the place that we always fall into.”
“That’s because you want to be with me,” I said, shooting her a wink. “I’ll give you your little time to think, but I already know what the response is going to be. You’re just procrastinating on dealing with the real.”
“Whatever.”
Grabbing her chin, I turned her head towards me and kissed her. At this point, I didn't really care who was watching. My lips needed to feel hers, and clearly, she needed a little reminder of why she couldn't escape me.
I reveled in the taste of her cherry-flavored lip gloss as it seeped between our lips. It was crazy how neither of us could stop ourselves from getting caught up in a moment of weakness. But it was something that we definitely had to get a handle on. Too much of this, and our athletes would be more focused on us rather than what they should be doing on the track.
Taking a deep breath, Alauni placed her hand against my chest and leaned back. “Okay, I’m going to go back to my seat.”
“Yeah, that’s probably a good idea.”
“You know, we could always finish this up later.”
Shaking my head, I chuckled. “Nah, you just get back in your seat and keep your distance. It’s for the best.”
“Says who?”
“We’ve already had this conversation. When you’re ready to do what I want you to do, I’ll give you what you want.”
“And what if I don’t do what you want me to do?”
I shrugged. “I guess that will be the end of things. You heard what my nephew said, I’m in high demand, which means I’ve got options.”
“Really?” She said, giving me a playful nudge in the arm.
“I’m just messing around. We’ll cross that bridge when we get to it.”
“Mmhmm. Don’t be out here testing the waters either. None of the women in that school is worthy of a man like you.”
“You don’t know that.”
“Oh, trust me, I do.”
“Damn, sounds like someone is jealous.”
“I’m not jealous, I’m just speaking the truth,” she said, finally going back to her seat.
But she was definitely jealous.
Alauni couldn’t lie to me. Her body language always told the truth. Not only that, I was connected to her, so I was always aware of her heart. Even when she didn’t want me to be.
“Don’t trip, I’m not going to give those other women any action. I mean…unless it’s Ms. Fair. She’s fine as hell.”
Alauni eyed me with a lifted brow. “Don’t play with me, Law.”
“I’m just saying, if she’s one of the women that’s trying to get at me, I just might have to see what’s up? She’s a little taller than I normally go for, but I’m willing to try something new.”
