He wrapped his arms around me, making me feel a lot warmer than I did before. “I love the way that I’m feeling you, and despite all of the little shit that we’ve dealt with, I love the way you’re feeling me too. I want us to keep the lines of communication open with each other. I want it to be clear that I’m always going to step in if I feel like you’re being disrespected. I don’t care who it is. I’m not interested in having a pissing match with any man, but I will cave a niggas jaw in if I feel like it’s necessary.”

Before today, his words probably would’ve rubbed me the wrong way. In the past, shit like that only happened because of another man’s insecurities. It wasn’t for the purpose of my protection. But this time, I knew it would be different. If Law ever had to stoop to the level of using his hands, it would be for the right reasons.

“Damn, I’m in love with you,” I blurted.

I was so giddy that I had to look away.

Easing my face back towards his, he said, “I’m in love with you too, and I hope that you understand where I’m coming from.”

“You sure? I don’t want there to be any misunderstandings. I’m going to let you handle your situation with your daughter’s father on your own terms, but if—”

I pushed my lips into his, stopping him from going any further. I wanted him to know just how much I understood.

After tonguing him down and making sure that I’d snatched every word that he was thinking about saying, I eased back and said, “Does that answer your question?”

“Yeah, I’m pretty sure that it did.”
