He’d even have to admit—to himself—that downing a glass of water did help relieve some of the pain.

He did.

There were many things he hadn’t done that he wanted. Some, he barely acknowledged himself. Others, he didn’t think he could admit—not without completely changing the image that Ken had built of him.

That image wasn’t a lie. Nathan hadn’t actively said anything that was untrue.

It was just… hard to be the boy he wanted, to express the things he was feeling and ask for the things he needed.
