Are we Talking about the Same Woman?

Drew

I t’s been a few days since I started feeling better and Ronnie went back to her place. I miss her like hell, but I know that she’s probably happy to be back in her own space again. She’s probably ecstatic to be in her own bed.

I feel awful that for half of the time she was with us, Colton insisted on sleeping in my bed, and then, I was sick. She ended up riding the couch the entire time. I wanted her to feel comfortable–not feel like she was crashing at a friend’s house in college.

Since she’s been back, we haven’t seen each other much.

She has been busy doing some work at her sister’s inn, and in the evenings, she’s been putting her house back in order.

I offered to come help, but she said that it wasn’t cleaned up enough for Colton to come over yet.

I guess the construction guys left her quite the mess.

When she first left, I worried that this whole thing with her watching Colton freaked her out to the point where she would run away.

When we hadn’t seen each other in a couple of days, I thought that might be the case.

But we have still been talking every night, and she still sends me texts throughout the day.

And as far as I know, we are still getting together this weekend.

I’m going to do everything in my power to make sure that happens.

I owe her one hell of a good time for all she has done lately.

Watching Colton while I was in bed. Helping him make cupcakes for his mom’s heavenly birthday.

She even straightened up the house and had groceries delivered so that I wouldn’t have to worry about it.

She’s fucking incredible. I plan on giving her an amazing weekend to show my appreciation. I’m going to pull out all the stops and make sure she knows how much she means to me.

I just have to get through the next day and a half of work.

Not having any Ronnie time all week will make that day and a half seem like an eternity. And tonight, I have to take Colton trick-or-treating. We didn’t make it to the store until last night to get his costume, and it was slim pickings, so he ended up getting a generic superhero.

I’m not rocking this whole single dad thing right now at all.

I look at the clock and see that it’s lunch time, so I head into the breakroom to eat the sandwich that I packed this morning.

Dylan and Jamie–the youngest worker in the shop–are already in there shooting the shit when I walk in.

Dylan looks up at me. “Well, well, well, if it isn’t the guy who has gotten my sister to settle down.”

I laugh. “I don’t know that I would go that far.”

“Good point. Ronnie is definitely a hard one to pin down. How are you guys doing? I heard she was on babysitting duty the other night.”

“Did she tell you that?” I ask.

“No, Liz did. I guess they were texting the other night when it was happening.”

“Yeah, she was great with Colton. I couldn’t have asked for more.”

Dylan looks confused. “I’m sorry. Are we talking about the same woman? Veronica Lawson? The woman who is terrified of babies, hates the sound of crying, and acts like changing a dirty diaper will physically harm her?”

“To be fair, Colton is out of all of those stages.”

“Still. I knew Ronnie would be okay eventually, but damn, she’s taking to your son pretty quickly. Good for her. I’m proud.”

“I owe her a hell of a good time this weekend to show her how awesome she is. Got any ideas on what she may like?”

Jamie chuckles. “I think we all know what Ronnie likes.”

“Hey, dude, that’s my girl,” I tell him. “Watch it.”

Dylan adds, “And my sister. You’re just jealous because she never slept with you.”

Jamie’s face falls. “Man, low blow.”

Dylan says, “Then, keep your mouth shut about my sister.” He turns his attention back to me. “What are you thinking for your big weekend with her?”

“Figured I’d take her to a nice dinner, maybe out to do something fun, and then–well, I will spare you all of the other details.”

He nods. “I appreciate that. Look, Ronnie loves to be surprised and have fun. She loves being spontaneous, so I wouldn’t even plan it out too much. Just go with the flow and see what happens.”

“Probably a good idea. Thanks, Dylan.”

“You all ready for Halloween tonight?” He asks.

“I guess. I waited until the last possible second to get Colton a costume, so now, he is stuck with some generic superhero thing. He’s putting on a happy face, but I know he’s disappointed. Natalie used to always make his costumes by hand, so that makes it even worse.”

Jamie starts talking again. “I think I can help with that.”

Both of us give a confused, “Huh?”

“I have three little brothers. We have totes upon totes of superhero costumes. Let me know what he’s into, and I can meet up with you later to give them to you.”

“Are you serious?” I ask.

“Yeah, they’ve outgrown them at this point. My mom never gets rid of anything, and at least someone will be able to get some use out of them.”

“Thanks, Jamie. That’s really cool of you.”

“No problem. I’ll give you my number. Just hit me up when you leave here.”

I hand him my phone so that he can put his number in. As he’s typing, he says, “Uhm, Ronnie just texted. She says that this weekend, she’s going to do things to your cock that would make the devil blush.”

We all fall silent for a minute, not quite sure what to say. It’s awkward that Jamie read it. It’s even more awkward that it was in front of Dylan, her brother.

Finally, Jamie is the one to speak. “Dude, you are one lucky son of a bitch.”

Don’t I know it?
