I watch her as she walks across the university campus, books in hand.

Bel smiled and nodded in that way only she can, a little detached from the world, like a princess occasionally gracing her subjects with a smile or a few words.

Not because she’s arrogant. Belinda has a unique personality—as sweet as honey.

I waited for us to grow up.

I was patient, because my father explained she’d been through a lot. She needed to grow on her own. And even though there was nothing I wanted more than to be her protector, I stepped back.
