I backed away from the bed, drawing a cross over my heart with the R. She knew what that meant.
I’d just crossed the threshold of the door when I heard her whisper to Nuri, “He’s not going to stop wreaking havoc until you wake up, so please wake up, baby girl.”
I walked out of the room, then jogged to Jah, waiting for me by the elevator.
My brother was always my best friend, but over the last week, he wouldn’t even let me out of his sight.
He knew I was on demon time and was on whatever with me.
When I wasn’t with Nuri, we were in the streets fucking shit up.
So many bodies had dropped that the news couldn’t even cover them all.
I left the children alone, but baby mamas were getting popped too.
Some were intentional, while others were collateral.
Nuri’s brother had been hiding, but I’d just gotten the drop on his ass. I was handling him first because what I had planned for Zero had to be drawn out. He was going to be begging for me to leave him alone by the time I finished.
“Everyone is waiting for us in The Dutch.”
I nodded once. “Artillery?”
“On deck.”
“My twin.” I grinned before dapping him up.
We left the hospital and headed straight into a swell of humid air outside. The sun was high in the sky, but that didn’t slow us up. Jah hopped in the passenger seat while I got in the driver’s seat of my car. I started it up, revved the engine, and then shot off like lightning.
We made it to the hood in twenty minutes, and sure enough, the block was filled with every Reaper on the east side. I parked, then hopped out because I had no time for bullshit. I was on a mission and determined to make sure the day ended with Nuri being an only child.
I closed the distance between us and dapped up my OGs. “What’s the plan?” Bubba asked.
“Kill everything walking,” I simply stated. I paused and then corrected myself ’cause these niggas were some savages for real. “But try to avoid the children. They don’t have shit to do with this.”
Bubba nodded. “Respect.”
“We gone!” I shouted. Jah was busy giving everybody the location.
He tossed the keys of the blacked-out Eskimo to Man Man.
I followed behind him, getting into the passenger seat.
His little ass was amped up. As much as I would’ve loved to keep my brothers away from this life, it wasn’t realistic where we were from.
Plus, it felt good knowing that my family had my back.
My brothers were slaying shit behind me with no questions asked or hesitation.
No nigga was ever going to get close and vice versa.
Jah and Burg hopped in the back before we pulled off.
Lazer was driving the truck behind us. No one spoke as we made the drive over to Southside Soulja territory.
That’s where Rylas was holed up. Apparently, them niggas were backing Zero because he promised to give them the east side when he wiped us out.
I couldn’t lie. That old nigga was bold and confident, but he thought this was still his prime.
I could admit that at one point in time, he had the streets in a chokehold, but I was a fucking child during his reign.
He truly believed he ran shit around here, and it was the furthest thing from the truth.
It was comical when I really thought about it. Solaire was my fucking city.
We all loaded up, then double-checked our AKs, ready for the moment the truck came to a stop.
It was broad fucking daylight, but we crept onto the block like the sky was ruled by the moon.
I blocked out the world around me as I slid my bandana up over my mouth.
My hair was already up in a turban, so I wasn’t worried about the shit falling in my face.
Man Man rolled down the windows, and them extended clips pierced the scorching hot daytime air. It sounded like a war zone as I squeezed my trigger without pause. I hopped out of the truck and rushed toward the trap house.
Bodies littered the lawn because niggas were too busy chilling like everything was all good. They’d never beefed with us before, so they didn’t know how we were coming. As the street filled with niggas wearing black bandanas while holding Dracos, we knew they would never make that mistake again.
We came so trim niggas were begging for their lives, and we didn’t let nan nigga slide. I was doing this for my wife, for the big house, for the future of the east side, and for my fucking respect.
I searched for Rylas, knowing he was somewhere amongst the carnage. I smiled when I made it to the back of the house and found him trying to hop the gate.
“Oh, Rylassssssss,” I taunted in a singsong voice, mimicking what he’d done to Nuri at the mall.
I lifted my AK and let the bullets sing through the air. The shit sounded like music piercing his frail body. Even his grunts contributed to the beat. I bobbed my head, walking to where he’d fallen on the ground.
He looked up at me with blood bubbling from his mouth like a volcano.
“You tried to take my heart from me. You thought she was married to a pussy, and I’m far from that.
By the time I meet you in hell, I will have shown your sister the love and devotion she deserves.
The St. James legacy will live on, but your name won’t.
I’m going to make it my life mission to make sure your entire existence is scrubbed from the face of the earth.
As far as anyone will know, Ethel and Amir had one child, a beautiful and precious daughter named Nuri Symone. ”
Rylas looked up at me with regret, but who could give a fuck about that?
When his mouth muttered something, I mocked him, making no effort to make sense of whatever he was saying.
I didn’t care. He tried to take away the best thing that has ever happened to me.
There was nothing he could say to me. I would never be able to sleep knowing he was still roaming the streets.
The life fading from his eyes was the only way this story ended. I smiled when his body went limp.
“Night, night, nigga,” I spat before jogging away, heading straight for the truck.
Jah watched my back until I was safely inside. Man Man mashed the gas once we were all in and gunned it down the street. We were the last ones to leave because I had to handle that.
My back plopped against the seat as I sighed, feeling a little relief. I still had another enemy out there, but knowing Rylas was gone gave me some peace. I pulled my vibrating phone from my pocket to see that Jiah was calling me. I leaned forward as my heart rate picked up.
“Wassup, Jiah?”
I could tell I wasn’t the only one who stopped breathing as Man Man quickly rolled all the windows up. You could hear a pin drop as we all waited for Jiah to speak. “Nuri is awake, and she’s asking for you.”
I closed my eyes, pressing my phone to my chest. God had looked out like I knew He would. You couldn’t convince me that I wasn’t supposed to serve His justice on them bitch ass south side niggas and Rylas.
My heart filled with gratitude despite my shaky breathing. A tear slid down my cheek as I pressed the phone back to my ear. “Tell her I’m on my way.”
