Story: Stars In His Eyes

He Zhilan was also somewhat astonished; she truly hadn’t realized that Chen Cui’s family was so well-off, able to afford living in such a western-style house, and even had a nanny taking care of the children at home.

The fact that Wang Juan didn’t let Chen Cui treat them to a meal was truly against all reason.

It must have been that Chen Cui called her husband after she got home. Then, Chen Cui’s husband found out that Chen Cui’s colleagues had come to visit, and he specially came back home. It was only then that everyone learned Chen Cui’s husband owned a brick factory that was not small in scale.

"My wife Cui is somewhat unpredictable in temperament. She hasn’t been a bother to all of you at work, has she?"

"Not at all~" Everyone actually quite liked Chen Cui’s husband.

Even though he had made a good deal of money from the brick factory, Chen Cui’s husband didn’t have an ounce of the airs of a wealthy man.

He wasn’t very tall, a typical Southerner with a distinctive Southern accent, dark skin, and not particularly dressed up.

If it weren’t for the fact that everyone had been informed, it would have been really hard to tell that such an unremarkable man was the boss of the brick factory.

After meeting the man of the house, everyone became especially curious about the story of him and Chen Cui. You see, Chen Cui was a genuine Northerner. Even barefoot, she was about as tall as her husband, and in heels, she was definitely taller.

"My parents were sent down to a village in the South, which happened to be his hometown, and it was there that I met him," Chen Cui said casually, sharing her story of being the daughter of intellectuals, following her parents to the countryside, and then meeting a poor boy who had only finished elementary school in the village, getting to know him, falling in love, and eventually marrying him.

Although Chen Cui did not explicitly say it, everyone understood that there must have been many hardships along the way; after all, the couple came from very different family backgrounds before finally coming together. It surely wasn’t easy.

No wonder Chen Cui’s husband was so doting towards her.

"By the way, Chen Cui, I remember you lived abroad for a few years, right?" Wang Juan suddenly asked.

Chen Cui nodded, "Yes, I only married him after returning to China."

With Wang Juan and Chen Cui’s back-and-forth, even He Zhilan was a bit surprised; evidently, Chen Cui and her husband had also gone through their fair share of trials and tribulations together.

"Alright, I invited you all over for hot pot, not to listen to the story of me and my husband. Go wash the veggies!" Chen Cui called out to the others, leaving only Zhang Zhongzheng, one of the men, to make tea and chat with her husband in the living room.

In the kitchen, after hearing Chen Cui’s story, Wang Juan became incredibly intrigued by He Zhilan’s story.

"He Zhilan, tell us, how did you and your soldier husband come together?"

"Me?" He Zhilan blinked, "I was his childhood betrothed! It was simply a matter of course. When I reached the appropriate age, I married him. Although we had some unpleasant issues later on, now, I’m very happy with him~"

"Childhood betrothed? You grew up together? Then that bond must be very deep!" Wang Juan had heard some things about He Zhilan from Sister Lin but not much.

"It’s like we’re childhood sweethearts. Such a relationship is quite nice.

Over time, you get used to having each other in your lives.

Plus, your husband is a soldier, which means he is reliable and responsible.

It’s good." Chen Cui smiled, "Being a childhood betrothed is good too. Both families know each other well, so there’s no conflict. Now you have a child, too. Don’t think about any past unpleasantness; that’s all behind us now.

From now on, focus on your child and your husband at home! "

Wang Juan let out a sigh, "Seeing the two of you so full of happiness, it makes me really want to start dating too."
