Story: Stars In His Eyes

"The person who hurt her?" Doctor Qin guessed.

He Teng nodded, "Yes."

"She has a heart knot." Doctor Qin spoke with certainty, "She’s hiding a lot inside, so when she suffers more setbacks, she just collapses, unable to bear it, and that’s why she presents this sort of pathological state."

At this point, Doctor Qin raised his eyes to look at He Teng, "To treat her psychological problems, you first need to know her heart knot, to unravel it, and moreover, your accompaniment as her husband is even more important."

After a pause, Doctor Qin went on, "I need to contact her in my role as a psychologist, but I don’t know if she’ll be repulsed by the identity of a psychologist."

"I don’t know," He Teng said truthfully. He really couldn’t be sure how He Zhilan would react if she found out Doctor Qin was the psychologist he had found for her.

Angry? Or in despair? Or perhaps fear and trepidation?

And yet, He Teng also knew what He Zhilan’s heart knot was.

But the thing is, he knew, but he was powerless to help her unravel it; he’s not a psychologist, he couldn’t help her walk out of the dead end in her heart, all he could do was to stay by her side and accompany her.

While they talked, the two who had stayed in the baby supply store for nearly half an hour finally left.

When they came out, their hands were almost too full to carry their purchases, but He Zhilan still had a smile as she told Chen Cui how much her son would probably like these glowing, singing toys.

At eleven o’clock at noon, He Zhilan and Chen Cui parted ways; Chen Cui went home, while He Zhilan prepared to return to the military unit.

After parting with Chen Cui, He Zhilan walked towards the place she had agreed upon with He Teng without any hesitation.

At noon, there were no vehicles heading to the military unit, so when she came out, she had arranged with He Teng to wait at an intersection at twelve o’clock and have He Teng come out to pick her up and take her back.

Even with the sun blazing overhead, He Zhilan had a light step, seemingly uninfluenced by the weather, swinging her bag gently, back and forth, accidentally bumping into the person in front of her and apologizing repeatedly.

"So absent-minded." He Teng couldn’t help but mutter. Usually she seemed so stable and composed, but he had not expected that, alone, she could be so childlike, carrying things like a three-year-old, unable to keep still for a moment.

"There’s a trash heap ahead." Doctor Qin pulled He Teng and they hid under a tree about one hundred meters away from the trash heap, watching the white figure approaching in front of them. Sure enough, she stopped when she reached the place, standing there, motionless, seemingly in deep thought.

After about five minutes, she suddenly moved, raising her hand and throwing away all the baby supplies and toys she had bought today, along with the bags. In her hands, she held onto only a shirt she bought for He Teng and her own new skirt.

He Teng fell silent; it seemed that everything Lan Li had said was true.

The white figure stayed at the trash heap for several minutes, then turned around and left with large strides, her footsteps still light, showing no sign of any distress.

"When she threw away that trash and turned away from the trash heap, her personality probably flipped back to the wife you know. At that moment, she should be clear in her heart that her child has long been gone," said Doctor Qin.
