Story: Stars In His Eyes

In the evening, when He Teng returned home, He Zhilan had just finished cooking noodles, and after they had dinner and took a bath, they returned to the bedroom to rest.

Maybe because the day’s outing was too exhausting, He Zhilan didn’t hassle He Teng before sleep as she usually did. Instead, she quietly lay down next to He Teng with her eyes closed.

He Teng thought He Zhilan was tired, so he turned off the light for her to rest well.

However, as soon as the light was off and he had just lain down, He Zhilan, whom he thought was asleep, suddenly called out to him.

After calling out, she said nothing more and became quiet again, as if she had fallen asleep.

He sighed softly, reached out to draw the person who was half a foot away from him into his arms, and it wasn’t until he accidentally touched her face and felt its iciness that He Teng realized that her quietude wasn’t due to sleep, but because she was secretly crying.

"Zhilan! What’s wrong?" He Teng, anxious, was about to turn on the light when He Zhilan stopped him.

"Brother, don’t turn on the lights, I’m fine," He Zhilan held onto He Teng’s arm, "I just feel upset inside."

Originally, she had been suppressing her tears, crying secretly, but after being discovered by He Teng, she could no longer hold back and started to sob softly.

"Brother, tell me, what exactly is wrong with me?" He Zhilan bit her lip, "You said you didn’t stop the car at the corner to pick me up a bit further on, I don’t believe it, because, that sort of thing, it’s not what you would do, you’re not that reckless."

"And Aunt Qin," He Zhilan’s voice choked up, "today, while I was out shopping, were you and Aunt Qin following behind Chen Cui and me?

When I was helping Chen Cui browse the baby store, I thought I saw you and her in the reflection on the display cabinet glass. Brother, Aunt Qin is a doctor, right?"

At first, He Zhilan didn’t think of Aunt Qin as a doctor, but after coming back from shopping today, the more she thought about it, the more something felt off, especially the worried and concerned looks that He Teng gave her at noon.

Why, for just a shopping trip with Chen Cui, did both He Teng and Aunt Qin need to follow her?

Throughout the afternoon, He Zhilan pondered who exactly Aunt Qin was, reviewing every detail of Aunt Qin she could recall, and finally, she concluded that Aunt Qin must be a doctor.

Because many of Aunt Qin’s little habits were very similar to those of Doctor Bian Muhe, who had mentioned that those were professional habits of doctors, like listening, asking, and taking notes.

"Brother, don’t hide it from me, am I severely sick?" He Zhilan looked tearfully at He Teng, "Brother, don’t hide it anymore, do I really have an incurable disease? Did Aunt Qin come back from M Country, is she a medical specialist in some field, here especially to treat me?"

Zhilan was truly afraid, "Brother, do I need to undergo surgery? Will it be like other people who end up losing all their hair after treatment? Brother, I don’t want to become an ugly bald person."

"Zhilan! Zhilan!" He Teng called her name repeatedly, which finally brought her wild imagination to a halt, "It’s not as bad as you think! Aunt Qin is a doctor, but she’s a psychologist, not the kind who performs surgeries that would make you go bald!"

He Teng, out of nervousness, blurted out the truth about Aunt Qin being a psychologist.

"Psychologist?" He Zhilan was bewildered, "Why would I need a psychologist? Brother, is Aunt Qin really Senior Zhou’s relative? Or did you find her specifically?"
