Story: Stars In His Eyes

With rushed steps, He Zhilan inadvertently ended up in Gu Family’s flower room. Much like Gu En had mentioned before, the flower room was filled with radiant roses, and many guests were chatting there.

He Zhilan didn’t know anyone from Gu Family and Lan Family, so, not wanting to be rude, she had to wait until Zhou Chenyue and the others had some free time to ask who were the members of the Gu and Lan family, then she could try to approach them.

After standing in the flower room for a while, He Zhilan worried that Zhou Chenyue and the rest might be looking for her, so she turned around to head back.

However, as she passed a staircase, she suddenly heard Gu En’s voice.

He seemed to be upstairs making a phone call, sounding flustered and angry, she even heard her name and Zhou Hongjin’s mentioned.

Driven by curiosity, He Zhilan went straight upstairs.

But after getting to the upper floor, she looked around and found no one in sight.

Just as she was about to head back downstairs, she noticed the door of the room behind her was open.

Thinking Gu En was inside, she tip-toed over, lightly pushing the door open, she peeked inside before stepping in.

The room appeared to be a study, with rows of bookshelves behind an antique screen, filled to the brim with books neatly lined up. Behind the desk hung a calligraphy scroll, He Zhilan curiously walked up for a close look, and was instantly rooted to the spot.

Wishing Grandpa happiness as vast as the East Sea and longevity as enduring as the Southern Mountains.

The childish handwriting was clearly from a little girl just learning to write. What shocked He Zhilan even more was the three unnoticeably small characters at the lower-right corner of the calligraphy—Gu Zhilan.

Her name, absent for thirteen years, suddenly appeared before her eyes without any warning.

Accompanied by this calligraphy piece, some memory suddenly leapt up from deep within her heart.

He Zhilan remembered that she started learning calligraphy when she was very little. It was her grandpa who personally taught her how to hold the brush and make strokes. She wrote this piece when she could hardly recognize any characters. It was a birthday present for her grandpa.

Although she couldn’t remember exactly when, she did remember she couldn’t recognize many characters at the time. Many of the characters on that calligraphy piece were found by her grandma and then carefully copied down by her, stroke by stroke.

The sudden appearance of this calligraphy piece awakened some faint memories in the depths of He Zhilan’s heart. She kept gazing at the calligraphy, trying to picture the faces of her family members from her memory.

"Do you have any manners? Who allowed you to wander around Gu Mansion? Really, since when can people like you just walk into Gu Mansion?"

The Gu Family’s housekeeper suddenly appeared at the door, "This study belongs to Gu’s old master, even the young mistress rarely enters! What is an outsider like you doing here? Stealing? Putting on a decent look but doing such a thing!"

The unreserved scolding from the housekeeper made He Zhilan’s face turn slightly red, she quickly apologized, "I’m sorry, I walked into the wrong place."

After all, it was her who intruded into the host’s study. He Zhilan took the initiative to apologize, but the housekeeper’s subsequent words upset her, "I just happened to come in here by accident. If you suspect me of theft, feel free to check if anything is missing in the study!"

With that said, He Zhilan turned around and walked away.

However, in her anger, she forgot to turn back the way she came.

In her aimless walk, she discovered that there was another staircase leading downstairs at the other end of the second floor.

She guessed, Gu En must have left from here after his call, which is why she didn’t see anyone.

He Zhilan had already left, but the housekeeper was still cursing at the same spot. The housekeeper’s rant managed to lure the old master of Gu Family out from another room.
