Story: Stars In His Eyes

"It’s okay." He Teng responded indifferently, spotting He Zhilan about to roll up his sleeves for an examination, he quickly backed off a few steps, "There are many people watching! What are you doing?"

"How did you get to the capital?" He Zhilan also realized it wasn’t the right time for this and gave up.

"I finished my mission, came to the capital for a meeting, so I took a detour to see you and Dongxue. My meeting will finish tomorrow morning, then I’ll return to the army." He Teng replied truthfully.

"You still have a meeting to attend?" He Zhilan pursed her lips and laughed lightly, nodding, her face beaming, "I forgot, you’re a cadre now, even the head of a company! Captain He, you’ve worked hard on your mission!"

Shortly after teasing He Teng, seeing his face unchanged, He Zhilan turned the topic uninterestingly, asking, "Have you seen Dongxue yet?"

"No." He Teng shook his head, "I came here first."

Upon hearing this, He Zhilan couldn’t help but stretch her lips into a grin; between Dongxue and her, He Teng had chosen to visit her first. It seemed that in He Teng’s heart, his ex-wife held a stronger pull than his sister.

"I live closer to here than you." He Teng responded awkwardly to He Zhilan’s smile, explaining a bit uncomfortably, before touching his nose.

"Then I’ll go with you to Military Medical University to see Dongxue!" He Zhilan disregarded this, first running upstairs to grab something, then racing back down, asking, "Where are you staying tonight?"

"In a guesthouse arranged by the army." He Teng replied, looking down at the paper bag in He Zhilan’s hand, not knowing what she had brought for Dongxue that required a specific trip upstairs. This running up and down had caused her to break into a sweat.

There was quite a distance between Military Medical University and Capital University, one to the east and one to the west. Therefore, He Teng and He Zhilan boarded a bus after leaving Capital University.

The bus was quite crowded over the weekend, and upon boarding, He Zhilan and He Teng found there were no seats left. Additionally, the driver’s hurried driving and the sudden acceleration before He Zhilan had steadied herself caused her to stumble backwards onto He Teng.

"Hold on and stand properly." He Teng instinctively placed his hand on He Zhilan’s waist to steady her.

After she turned to stick her tongue out at him in response, he finally glanced at his hand on her slender waist and released her.

However, his hand never really retreated, instead he held it aloft as if he was afraid of He Zhilan falling again.

"It’s really crowded~" He Zhilan muttered before leaning directly back against He Teng, offering him a grin, "Leaning like this, I won’t fall! Brother, you must stand firm because if I fall, you’ll have to cushion me!"

He Teng looked down at He Zhilan, who was leaning against him. He didn’t say anything nor did he push her away despite the stares from the crowd. His upheld hand remained rigidly in mid-air until they arrived at their stop and disembarked from the bus.

However, the trip to Military Medical University was in vain as Dongxue wasn’t in her dormitory and no one knew where she had gone. After waiting for a while without any signs of her, He Zhilan and He Teng left, asking Dongxue’s roommates to relay their visit.

"Dongxue’s relationship with her roommates is good, brother, don’t worry." He Zhilan said, "I didn’t have time to visit the army at the beginning of the term, but I visited Dongxue a couple of times. Her roommates are very easy to get along with."
