Story: Stars In His Eyes

"He Teng, actually, He Zhilan is really suffering inside. You are her husband, and sometimes, you should be more understanding of her. She might not voice many things, but that doesn’t mean she is oblivious about them.

" Jiang Biyun, eyes filled with tears and a heavy heart, had left for just a day, but upon her return, she found out that He Zhilan had been through a life and death situation.

"You mistrust her, but in reality, she feels even worse than you do.

When she returned to her dorm last night, she looked merely like a soulless figure. We all felt so heartbroken for her."

"Once He Zhilan wakes up, please don’t talk about divorce anymore. Whatever issue there may be, discuss it with her in a calm manner." Jiang Biyun advised, heavy emotion in her voice, "Zhilan truly treasures this marriage of yours."

"Divorce?" Lin Deng, listening from the side, was utterly taken aback. He, too, had only found out about He Zhilan’s marriage at Gu Mansion yesterday, but hadn’t known that He Teng was her husband.

Now hearing Jiang Biyun’s words, he was somewhat astonished.

"Isn’t Captain He He Zhilan’s brother? How could he be her husband? "

"I wouldn’t have kept it from you if I hadn’t been afraid you’d tell everything to that murderer, Gu En! You’ve always refused to believe that Gu En is that vile, so I didn’t dare tell you." Jiang Biyun explained.

Lin Deng’s expressions stiffened, but it wasn’t about blaming Jiang Biyun for keeping him in the dark, he just felt sorry for He Zhilan.

"Why the divorce? Yesterday, He Zhilan was out of the blue telling Gu’s old master that she was married and openly declaring her love for her husband. Why divorce when there is love?"

Lin Deng’s words made the silent He Teng look up. "She said these things?"

"Yes, she talked with Old Master Gu alone." Lin Deng nodded, "Later, Gu’s Old Master repeated it, that’s when I discovered she was married, but I had no clue that Captain He would be her husband. I actually thought you two were biological siblings."

"She told Old Master Gu that she really loves her husband?" He Teng sounded somewhat astonished. He Zhilan had not only told the truth about her marriage when visiting the Gu Mansion, but she even told the Old Master Gu that she loved him, her husband?

What was the actual purpose of He Zhilan’s insistence on visiting the Gu Mansion?

Or was she only pretending to be a well-behaved girl in front of Gu Old Master?

He Teng shook his head, instantly rejecting that thought. He Zhilan wasn’t a woman of such profound thoughts; she wouldn’t have thought that way.

"If she didn’t love you, why would she marry you?" Lin Deng responded matter-of-factly. He sensed something strange about He Teng’s reaction when hearing those words from He Zhilan.

This astonishment didn’t seem like a normal reaction a spouse would have upon hearing a declaration of love from their partner.

It wasn’t until around nine o’clock that the floor nurse came to usher the visitors out, so as not to disturb the rest of the patients. Only then did Lin Deng and Jiang Biyun leave the hospital.

The lights in the ward were turned off and the room was barely lit by the faint moonlight; it was dim and obscure.

He Teng kept his position, silently looking at He Zhilan, lying unconscious on the hospital bed. A wave of pain filled his heart.

"He Zhilan, do you know what love is?" He Teng gently raised his hand, carefully stroking her pale face.

What is love? This was a question that not even He Teng himself knew the answer to.

He didn’t know whether what he felt for He Zhilan was love. The kind of love that felt similar to the love he had for his parents and family, was it the love she spoke of?

However, he didn’t know when he had started worrying more about He Zhilan than his family, and the amount of time he missed her during his free time exceeded the time he spent missing his family.
