Page 97 of Seduction
“I didn’t know when you’d be back, so….” I trail off, letting him fill in the blanks.
“Sorry I took so long. I checked in on Mikey. He’s sound asleep.”
“He went down after his bath. I thought being in a strange place would affect him, but I didn’t have any trouble with him.”
“That’s good. I’m gonna grab a shower.”
He kisses my forehead, then removes his glasses, placing them in a case on the nightstand. As he walks to the bathroom, he strips off his cut, hanging it in the closet. I lie back, staring up at the ceiling, absentmindedly playing with the “E” on my bracelet. With what’s going on with me, I’d hate for there to be trouble with the club, too. Things have been quiet for a while, mostly internal issues. There haven’t been any club rivalries. Not that I know of, anyway. Gage has made the MC pretty self-sufficient. I may never find out what’s happening, so I can only hope it ends well.
“What are you thinking about?” Jon asks, walking back into the room, drying his hair with a towel.
“Whatever kept you out until 2:00 a.m.”
After tossing the towel in a hamper, he climbs in next to me and pulls me into his arms. I settle in against him, laying my head on his cool chest.
“Gage ordered a lockdown.”
“Lockdown? But we haven’t had one since Daddy was president. What’s going on?”
“We don’t think Chopper’s accident was an accident at all.”
“What?” I sit up, staring down at him in wide-eyed horror. “Who would do that?”
“We don’t know yet. Something happened today while we were on the road, and we just think it’s best to get everyone together. Makes protection easier.”
“My God….”
“Don’t worry. Everything’s going to be fine. Just know I’ll be your shadow for a while.”
“You’remy detail?”
“Why? Would you rather have the prospect?” He smiles, tugging me back to my previous position on his chest.
“What about work?”
“I gave up the hospital.”
“What?” I shake my head in disbelief. “Any more bombs to drop?”
“Not that I can think of.”
“Jon… Dr. Manning called while you were gone. He’s scheduled my surgery in two days. How will that go with the lockdown?”
“I’ll get you there. I told you not to worry.”
His tone temporarily eases my fears. I know things are messed up, but I trust that he will take care of me… of Mikey.
“Okay.”
“Good. Now gimme a kiss.”
Shuffling up the bed, I rest on my elbow, gaze fixed on his handsome face. I cup his cheek, sliding my thumb back and forth. My heart swells with love at the emotion reflected in his eyes. Jon was right. That old woman was right. Itispossible to love again. I just needed to believe, to accept what he’s freely giving.
I press my lips to his, moaning when he shifts to his side, sliding his free hand around my waist. It slowly moves down, resting on my ass as he takes control of the kiss. It deepens, each stroke of his tongue leaving me light-headed. I roll over, straddling him as I reluctantly break away. He let me use him in Atlanta because it’s what I needed. Now it’s my turn to be there for him. To make him forget.
I slide my palms over his pecs and down his flat stomach, stopping at the waistband of his boxers.
“It’s not fair,” I complain.
