“Move.” Razor nudges him forward with his gun. “You try anything, I’ll end you. I don’t give a fuck who sees.”
We let him walk between us until we get down the stairs, then surround him, not giving him space to attempt an escape. Crow opens the back of the van, climbing in after Willoughby. Allah joins them, closing the doors. I tap them twice, signaling to Chopper to move out. Gage and I ride in front of the van, the others behind, not stopping until we get to the warehouse.
On the surface, it’s just a place Gage stores his vehicles. Below it is a virtual torture chamber. The last time we were here, some medieval shit went down. Razor opens the doors of the van, keeping his gun on Willoughby as he climbs out. Crow follows, sticking his weapon in the man’s back. We take him through the warehouse, past Gage’s cars and bikes, through the hidden entrance and downstairs to where all the action happens. Razor and Venom tie him to a chair in one of the smaller rooms, Gage watching and cracking his knuckles. Willoughby looks resigned, as if he’s accepted his fate.
“I know you’re not the mastermind behind this,” Gage says, planting a chair before the man and dropping down in it. “Tell me who hired you and you might get out of here alive.”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“Yeah? Then tell me how a bullet with your fingerprint ended up in the wall of my clubhouse.”
Surprise registers on the man’s face before he pushes it away. The prez caught it, too.
“We’re more than just a bunch of bikers, Clarkey boy. We have resources. It’s best you tell us what you know now.”
“I don’t know anything.”
“Okay. I don’t have much patience right now, and I gave the easy way a try. Time for the hard way.”
He rises, walking away and taking his chair with him. Razor moves into position, landing a punch to the man’s face that sends the chair tipping over.
“I’m gonna head back to the hospital,” I inform Gage. “You don’t need me for this.”
“Okay. I’ll let you know if the piggy squeals.”
I nod, making my way back upstairs. Pulling my phone out, I call Charger to check in. After hearing that Ellen is asleep, I call Gunner. He owns a small store outside of town and also handles some custom jobs for us, including getting our cuts made. I told Ellen I was giving her my patch, and I want to do it the moment she’s out of the hospital. Gunner laughs in my ear when I tell him what I want.
“First the prez, now you? You boys are dropping like flies. Who’s next?”
“What can I say, Gun? When it’s your time, it’s your time.”
“I hear ya. Anyone I know?”
“Ellen, Gage’s sister.”
“Fuck. You pulled that shit and you’re still breathing?” He chuckles.
“What if I told you she pulled me?”
“Shit. I’ll get started on that cut tonight. Can’t let that one get away.”
“Thanks, Gun.”
“Gimme a few days. I’ll call you when it’s ready.”
“Cool.”
On the ride to the hospital, thoughts of Ellen consume me. More specifically, the conversation I had with her brother about her. I have to love her, right? I’m claiming her, moving her into my place. I wouldn’t feel this intense connection with her if I didn’t. Mind made up, I twist the throttle, eager to be by her side. At a red light, there’s a man selling roses, so I buy two dozen, smiling the rest of the journey. While on my way to her room, I bump into Charger and Darren, who seem to be in a mighty rush.
“What’s going on?” I ask, fear forming a lump in my throat.
“Not sure, but something,” Charger answers.
I drop the roses, running ahead of them. I slide to a stop at a door the prospect is banging on.
“Where is she?” I demand.
“They took her through there.” He points to a corridor beyond the door. “They had IDs and everything. Said they were taking her to see the doctor.”
