“Yeah, well… never underestimate your opponent.”
“Don’t worry, it won’t happen again.”
“Who are you and what do you want?”
“Does the name Henry Briggs ring a bell?”
The Pharmacist.Shit.
The muscles in Gage’s jaw clench, no doubt reliving the hell that name caused him and Raven not long ago. Briggs was a drug dealer; a chemist who specialized in mixing recreational drugs, coming up with his own hybrids.
Gage glances up at Tek, who motions for him to keep going.
“Sure. I remember the scared-as-fuck look in his eyes as he stared down the barrel of my Glock, begging for his life.”
“He was my father!” the man shouts. “You want to know what I want? You, asshole, in exchange for the girl.”
“All you had to do was come at me, motherfucker. You’re a pussy just like your old man, preying on innocent women.”
The man growls, throwing out an address. “Come alone, or we kill everyone on sight. Then I’ll give my boys a go at your sister. After I’m done with her that is.”
I. Lose. My. Shit.
“Listen tome, motherfucker. That’smywoman you have. You touch a hair on her head, you’ll wish you were never born.”
“Is that so?” He laughs. “What’s the good doctor going to do?”
Gage’s eyes meet mine. He hasn’t only been watching us, but he knowsaboutus. It only gets me more riled up. Pushing to my feet, I pick up the phone. Despite my anger, my voice is all controlled calm.
“I’ll cut your head off and send it to your mother in a box with a pretty red bow. A couple days later, she’ll wake up in bed next your rotting corpse.”
Gage raises a surprised brow. My other brothers are watching me, mouths agape. The line is quiet, and I think he hung up. Tek gives me a thumbs-up. Since he has what he needs, I grab the top of the phone to close it. That’s when Briggs finally speaks.
“Midnight. Come alone, Hunter.”
Alone? I think not.
For once, it’s not the Reaper that should be feared.
It’s the doctor.

There’s a deafening silence in the van on our way to the location of the meet. Gage sits in the passenger seat, flexing his fingers and staring out the window, no doubt thinking about what he’s going to do the kidnapper. Our thoughts are probably the same. This is the one instance where I’ll have no qualms ridding the Earth of this scum.
“He’s mine, Gage.”
In the periphery of my vision, I see his head turn in my direction.
“You sure?”
“He’s mine,” I reiterate, gripping the steering wheel until my knuckles turn white.
“Okay, man. Just let me have a go at him first.”
“I’ll think about it.”
There’s a brief silence before he sighs. Looking out the window, he quietly says, “I’m glad it’s you, E.”
