Back at Jon’s house, he gets Mikey settled in front of the TV with a slice, then shows me how to work his security system. Next, he gives me a mini tour of the house. On the stop in his bedroom, I quietly watch him strap on a shoulder holster and remove a gun from a box in the closet. I don’t know what’s going on, but I’m starting to worry.

“It’s just a precaution,” he says, noticing the look on my face. “I doubt I’ll need it.”

“Okay. Just… be careful.”

“I will.” He kisses my forehead, then saunters over to his chest of drawers, removing a box from the top drawer.

He approaches me, a smile pasted on his lips as he silently hands me the square velvet box.

“I got you something.”

“What is it?” I ask, taking it with a raised brow. He doesn’t answer, so I flip the lid. Inside is a gold bracelet. The link is the same as my mom’s necklace, a sapphire-studded “E” dangling from it.

“Jon.” I inhale sharply. “It’s beautiful.”

He removes the piece of jewelry before tossing the box aside. I give him my hand, allowing him to clasp it around my wrist. The little blue letter falls on the back of my hand. His eyes meeting mine, he places a gentle kiss on that very spot, sending a shiver up my spine.

“Is that for Ellen or Einstein?”

“What do you think?” he asks, not breaking our stare.

“I think I love it,” I answer on an exhaled breath, not saying what I really want to.

“I’m glad.”

His fingers curl around mine, tugging me back to the living room. When the prospect shows up, I fix him a plate and he joins Mikey. Jon pulls me along behind him, stopping at the door to face me.

“I won’t be gone long, but if you need anything, call me. You can put Mikey in the spare bedroom.”

“Okay.”

“I want to continue what we started the other night. You have no idea what you did to me, finding you like that.”

With a coy smile, I lean in to him, grabbing both sides of his cut. “I’m pretty sure that can be arranged.”

“Fuck. I’m going to be hard the entire time I’m gone. The boys won’t let me hear the end of it.”

Laughing, I slide my fingers into his hair and pull his head down to my level. “I guess you need to hurry back.”

I press my lips to his, a soft moan leaving them when his hands wrap around me, gripping my ass. He squeezes the cheeks, taking over the kiss and plundering my mouth. His tongue charges in, powerfully tasting. He sucks on my lips, teeth intermittently nipping at them. Shivers travel the length of my body, my muscles clenching with need. “I gotta go, babe.” His voice is low and gravelly, his arousal evident in more ways than one.
