“Ithink he’s a beta.”

“No, he’s an alpha.”

“I think he’s just tall.”

The three security agents argue with each other as they relay to me that Ondine has ran into a tall, red-haired man.

“He’s a beta. It’s Arnold Meier, my pack’s beta,” I correct. They said she had “stars in her eyes” and he kissed her.

“I’m sorry, I didn’t know you had…we didn’t know about him.”

“It’s ok, just stay with them. I’ll be down there soon.”

I guess Ondine wanted a little break and ran into the beta. I had a plan for his introduction to her, but it’s nice to know these two are like magnets.

It does make me wonder why she needed to stop the car. They were just a few miles from the house. Was she having doubts?

A smile curls all the way up on my face. I guess that’s why I found her little boyfriend, isn’t it? To make sure this would be her choice.

“Shadow,” I say when he answers the phone.

“Hey, did you know that omegas don’t always fall asleep after knotting? It’s only something like 30% that do. It also says if you pass out during knotting, you’re 300 times more likely to have heats longer than three days and require five or more partners.”

I guess Shadow is learning a lot at the nest store.

“Shadow, where is the beta?”

“I don’t know. Looking at light bulbs. Let me go get him.”

I wait for him to realize the beta is no longer in the store. I slide into my car and get it started, before Shadow starts saying: “Fuck. Fuck. Fuck.”

“Relax, I have eyes on him. Ondine happened to be strolling past the nest store and he spotted her. I’m on my way there now. Can you feel him?” I ask. I get out of the neighborhood quickly and park the car in front of the nest store.

“I have to be standing right next to him. He’s a beta. I can’t even track him. What is the point of bonding a beta?”

I huff a laugh out at him and end the call.

He meets me outside of the car.

“I’m so sorry. I totally let him out of my sight.”

“Sorry? Ondine found our bait the moment we dropped him in the water,” I say and I can’t keep the smile off of my face. I’m so glad I bonded him already. “Did you get the stuff for the nest?”

“Yeah, just checked out. They’ll be delivering it later.”

I suddenly catch on to her scent. Shadow follows close as I let her scent lead me to an alleyway. It’s all red brick and it opens up to some municipal gardens on the other side. There are three bathrooms: male, female, and pack. Shadow and I stop in front of the pack restroom.

And we hear her cry out in ecstasy.

That guy has my omega screaming in pleasure. I’ve never heard this sound from her. What is he doing to her that’s got her sounding like that?

Bang! Bang! Bang!

I pound on the door. They go silent.

“Ondine! It’s Jake. Open the door.” My voice is entirely too stern.

I give another moment before I lift my fist again.
