Page 38 of Meek: Chasing That Gangsta Love
“ I hope Meek doesn’t find me here.” I cried when I showed up on Victoria’s doorstep.
Never in a million years would I have thought I’d be standing here.
Going to a room wasn’t an option because he would find me, and going to Mya’s house was a bigger mistake because that’s the first place he would look.
I knew for a fact he didn’t know where Victoria had just moved to, and he wouldn’t expect me to be here anyway.
I just needed somewhere to lay low until I found a little place to call my own.
She flicked the cigarette bud in the grass. “What happened to you?” She asked.
I couldn’t even talk, all I could do was cry.
The hurt, I couldn’t explain it. The shit was like something I’ve never experienced before.
I knew this sounded crazy as hell, but I rather be raped by Clint all over again, before experiencing this kind of pain.
This was on a different level. I dropped my head trying to hide the remainder of my tears.
“Shit Kisha.” She said grabbing my hand. “Get your butt in here. Stand right here and let me get my company out of here.” She said leaving me by the door. I noticed two dudes sitting on the couch playing the play station system while cursing each other out. They were young just like she liked them.
She stepped over the system with her fuzzy bedroom slippers and turned the TV off before facing them. “Ya’ll gotta go, get the fuck out I have a family situation going on right now.” She said.
“Damn Vicki!” The taller dude said throwing his arms up. “You fucking trippin’ I had money on this game.”
The other one chuckled. “Don’t matter, she saved yo ass nigga, cause you was losing any fucking way.”
Vicki cut the small talk. “Yeah, well debate about it on the way out the door.”
“You trippin’ foreal.” The tall one said again.
“Um hmm.” She hummed.
They both were nice enough to speak to me on the way out, but the other dude said a little more. “You too pretty to be crying about a nigga sweetheart.” He let me know and kept walking.
Victoria closed the door and pointed to the couch. “Sit down.” She said. I flopped my pregnant ass on the couch and stared at the walls.
“What did he do? You’re hurting baby, I can see it. It’s scary; I feel it and for you to show up here it has to be serious.”
I kept wiping my eyes trying to catch the tears; my heart was on fire, my soul was bleeding. Everything on my body hurt; I didn’t want to upset my little man, but I couldn’t help it. “Ahhhh!” I let out a long deep cry as my chest heaved up and down.
“Come here.” Victoria pulled me close to her placing my head on her chest consoling me. “Damn girl, I know that cry. I’ve been there and that’s a hurt that nobody besides God can fix.”
“But why?” I cried. “If he loved me then why the fuck would he do me like this?”
She rocked me back and forth like a baby. “What happened Kish? Just tell me.”
I raised my head and sniffed using my finger to wipe the snot that threatened to slide from my nose. “I saw him fucking my step-sister, the same bitch from the shop up there. All this time and I didn’t even know it was her.” I told her. “And you know what else?”
She looked angrier then me right now. “Lord Jesus, I don’t know if I want to hear anymore.”
I continued on, “When they noticed me standing at the window, Brittany smirked at me. She fucking smirked at me like it was funny.”
She hopped off the couch gently pushing me to the side so she could grab her phone. “Where the bitch at Meek?” She asked him on speaker.
“Victoria.” He said sounding depressed. “I fucked up, I fucked up bad.”
“Are you crying?” She asked pacing back and forth. She was walking so hard one of her rollers slipped out of her head.
My heart dropped hearing his voice caused me to get become hysterical all over again; only I couldn’t make a sound, or he’ll hear me. “Call her for me.” He said ignoring her question. “I’m riding around looking for her; she called you? Where was she at?”
“Of course she called me idiot! Who else was the girl gonna call? I don’t know where she is and if I did, I wouldn’t tell your ass any damn way. The nerve of you to fuck that girl’s step-sister!” She fumed. “What’s wrong with you?”
There was an awkward silence before he spoke again. “Wait, what? Are we talking about the same shit?”
“Of course, Meek. Let me break it down for you. She’s the sister to the brother that raped Kisha and also to the one who tried to take your life. You get it now? She’s Kisha’s step-sister; you’ve heard her mention that before…right?”
“Shit!” He yelled out loud as his voice blast through the speaker of the phone. “I fucking swear I didn’t know that was her.”
“Yeah well, she knew who you were and now she did exactly what she wanted to do; hurt Kisha. Same shit everybody’s been doing to her all of her life. That’s why I made mends with the poor girl; shit, she’s been through enough already.”
“I gotta go, Victoria.”
“I’m your mama, boy! Don’t run now.” She told him.
“Nah, foreal, I feel like I’m about to be sick.” He said.
“Well, you should.” She rolled her eyes. “Where’s the little bitch Brittany at, huh? I’m about to grease up my face, throw on my sneakers and go whoop her ass my damn self. Kisha is pregnant dammit, she doesn’t need to be stressing that baby out going through all of this.”
His voice was low when he spoke. “I know that you don’t have to tell me that, it’s my baby to. You don’t think I want my son to be healthy?”
She finally took a seat. “Stay away from her so she can get the baby here healthy. That child needs some time to herself.”
“I can’t promise that Victoria. I’ll be searching for her ass every day until I find her and if she calls you then let me know.”
“I’ll think about it.” She said hanging up. She sat back down next to me. “You go in the spare room and get you some rest Kish, enough is enough.”
I reluctantly stood up and took my bag to the back room.
To my surprise it was actually decent back here as well, I had to give her that much.
Although she was living in poverty in this run-down area; she kept a clean place.
I plugged my phone up to the charger cord and snuggled up under the covers as I cried myself to sleep.
In the wee hours of the morning, I was awakened by a commotion coming from outside.
I didn’t know who or what, but it sounded like somebody was having one big brawl outside.
I hopped up and opened the room door to find Victoria standing at her front door watching.
She turned around when she heard the room door open.
“Girl, they woke you up to?” She asked smoking a cigarette.
“These some straight fools; lil Jim Bob from next door done stabbed his damn daddy over some silly ass argument.” She carried on and then flicked the bud of the cigarette in the grass.
“Gone on back in there, you ain’t missing shit out here besides some clowns. ”
I turned around and walked to the room closing the door. I cried so much my damn eyeballs were sore and I constantly felt like I had to vomit. I checked my phone and wasn’t surprised to see how many times Meek called me. I checked my voicemail next.
Kisha, this is Mya, where the fuck you at girl? Call me, this nigga Meek is going crazy, and I promise you I’mma beat the shit out of Brittany. That girl don’t even know how bad I want to break her fucking jaw. Call me girl, I’m worried about you.
I saved that message so I could listen to it over and over; Mya always managed to put a smile on my face. I checked the next message, it was from Meek.
Kisha, I’m sorry baby. I don’t k now what to do to fix this.
Honestly, this was the first time in life that I’ve been through something like this and if I told you I knew how to fix it I wouldn’t be telling the truth.
We’ve been through so much Kish, please don’t end it like this.
We’re supposed to raise our family together and give JR the family we never had.
Remember? For what it’s worth, this was the first time that shit happened, and I can put that on my life.
I wasn’t in the right frame of mind Kisha. Call me, I love you.
I wiped a tear and deleted that message. He left one more. The sounds of our favorite song played in the background.
“There’s only one me and you, and how we used to shine, no matter what you go through, we are one. That’s a fact that you can’t deny, so baby we can’t just let this fire pass us by, forever we’d both regret, so don’t forget about us.”
I saved that one; I don’t know why, I just did. Sleep was calling me and that’s the only way I could get Meek off my mind before the tears started rolling again. What was a girl to do when the only person who could get her to stop crying, was the person who made her cry?
By the morning, I still didn’t feel any better, but I had to push on.
I’d been through worse; I could do this.
Me and my baby was gon’ be alright. I showered and pulled something to wear from my bag so I could get up and out.
After I was dressed, I called my landlord for the rental property on the shop and told her I wouldn’t be around for a couple of days; something came up.
When I walked in the living room, Victoria was sprawled out on the couch with half of her rollers on the floor from her sleeping so wild.
She looked so peaceful, I didn’t want to disturb her, so I walked out the door making sure to lock the bottom.
On the way to my car, I felt glass crunching under my boots and had to look down to realize that the glass was right next to my back window.
I couldn’t believe it! Some asshole broke in my damn car and took half of my bags out the back seat.
I couldn’t take much more. I stormed back to the door and knocked on it.
“Victoria!” I called her name with tears rolling down my face.
