Page 34 of Meek: Chasing That Gangsta Love
I was too tipsy to deal with this shit tonight. “Her fucking hormones are wilding again, let me crash at yo crib tonight.” I said getting back in the Bentley he was driving and closed the door.
Demond chuckled. “Can’t live wit’em and can’t live without’em.”
“Yeah, yeah, yeah. Stop to the corner store, a nigga is hungry.”
“Shit.” Demond mumbled. “There go them blue berries and cherries.”
I snapped my seatbelt on. “We didn’t even do shit.” I said.
“Stay cool.” He told me.
I pulled out my phone and set that bitch to record before placing it on the side of the door in the handle. “Nigga, these motherfuckers killing niggas every other day and you want me to chill on this dark ass road. I’m supposed to panic.”
Demond rolled the window down as the white officer approached the driver’s side holding his flashlight in our face. “Can I help you officer?” Demond ask.
“License and registration please.” He asked with a hard face. He gripped the flashlight so tight his knuckles were a different shade of white.
Demond reached over and grabbed what he needed from the glove compartment. “Here you go sir. May I ask why I got pulled over?”
The cop stared down at his license and look back in his face. “You have a busted taillight.” He said. “I’ll be right back.” He walked away.
I looked at him in disbelief. “Nigga this a motherfucking $200,000 dollar car, how the fuck he talkin’ about a taillight? I know what the problem is, he see two young niggas livin’ life and it’s a problem. Fuck outta here.”
“Meek, just chill the fuck out.” He said again.
All I could think about was the guns on the floor behind us and I prayed like hell he didn’t have any dope in this bitch. The officer came back and asked up to get out the car. He made me give him my license as well.
“What’s all this for?” I asked him standing to the side as he called another unit in. I had my phone in my hand the entire time.
“Are there any weapons in the car?” He asked.
Demond shook his head. “Yes sir, under the seat but they’re registered and clean.” He told him speaking like a white boy.
The officer waited until the other unit pulled up before he checked the car. Now here it is I’m looking at the taillights and both of those shits were just fine. I always tried to avoid this shit. I saw this shit on the news every day, that’s why I always prayed when I left the house.
“We didn’t do shit.” I told him. “I thought he said the light was out?” I said to Demond.
He looked at me and shook his head. “Don’t even say shit nigga, we just trying to make it up outta this bitch alive.”
“You got something to say nigger?” The cop asked flashing his light on us again.
“No sir.” Demond said with anger on his face. It was too late for this shit; all we wanted to do was get in the house we weren’t fucking with nobody.
I knew the car was legit and the titles were clean. The guns were registered, and we didn’t have any fucking warrants at all. Both licenses were valid. All he had to do was let us go. I knew his racist ass needed something to do.
His white female partner was cool though.
She looked at us and winked her eye. “We’ll have you boys out of here shortly.
” She walked to her partner and said something to him that only they could hear.
This motherfucker was really searching the car for more than just guns.
He didn’t even ask for permission or give us a reason as to why he was doing that shit in the first place.
Since it was the wee hours of the morning and people were getting up and, on the road, preparing for work, a good citizen heading to work stopped when he saw the commotion and hopped out of his car.
He was older with a head full of gray hairs.
His uniform said he worked at a tire shop somewhere.
His skin was the same color as ours, but he was here for us.
“Looks like you boys are in a bind.” He said standing off to the side next to us.
The male cop looked up and tried to get him away from us. “Who are you? Is there a reason why you’re here?” He asked walking behind the trunk of the car.
The man stood right there and stood his ground.
“Sandra Bland, Mike Brown, Freddie Gray, Philando Castile, Alton Sterling.” He called their names.
“Must I go on sir? I’ve had just about enough of it, so since my color matters, I’m going to stand right here with these boys to make sure they leave here safe and live to see their families tomorrow. ”
I couldn’t fucking believe it! I wanted to run and hug this man.
This was the first time EVER that I witnessed this kind of shit.
The officer looked like he was pissed with the man for sticking a fork in his shit.
He continued on and found nothing at all.
The only thing he could come up with was some shit about the tag and it not being registered so he had to have the car towed.
We both knew it was some bullshit but we’d rather the car get towed and still breathe to see another day.
It didn’t make no sense how the cops had niggas shook.
Even when you did right, they still found something wrong.
Not all cops were bad cops, but it sucked that they had to suffer for their colleagues’ mishaps.
The man stayed with us through the entire ordeal.
He even took our guns and shit and said we had to come down to the station and get them, which was bullshit.
When the car was towed and the officers were gone, the man introduced himself.
“I’m Michael.” He said shaking each of our hands.
“You boys need a lift anywhere?” He asked.
I shook his hand first. “Thanks, my man, we really appreciate what you did out here.” I told him genuinely thankful. It was good to know it was still some good people out here.
“No problem at all.” He said.
Demond shook his hand and thanked him next. “Looks like you were headed to work; go ahead and get there. We appreciate everything, we got it from here.”
He handed us both a card to his tire shop and went on about his business. “How the fuck we gonna get to your house now?” I asked.
“Man, I don’t fucking know but the sun will be up in a minute.” Demond said checking the time. “Mya ass isn’t gonna come.”
“And Kisha is probably dead to the world or still mad, so I know she’s not coming.” I let him know.
“I’ll call Brittany, she’s always up all night shit she’ll come.”
I shook my head and pulled out my phone. “Nah, I’ll try my luck with Kish.” I pulled my phone out and called her ass like five times and each time it went to the voicemail. “Shit.”
“Just like I thought.” He chuckled. “I text Brittany and she’s on the way.”
“Nah dawg, I’m not getting in the car with her ass. I’ll walk or call a Uber first.” That’s exactly what the fuck I did; ordered an Uber who was there in less than five minutes. “You coming or not?” I asked him.
“Man, she’s already on her way.” He said throwing his hands up in the air, “Why you so scared of the bitch? Damn nigga.”
“My nigga, I’m not scary, I’m smart.” I hopped in the car and rolled the window down. “I’ll probably be sleep all morning, so don’t call me. See you at the shop later, I’m taking my ass back home.”
I rolled the window up as we pulled off right on time cause Brittany’s little Beamer was pulling up. When I got home this time I went and knocked on the bedroom window forcing Kisha to get up.
“Meek.” She rubbed her eyes when she opened the door. “Why you in a Uber?” She asked.
I stepped inside and closed the door behind me before putting my lips on her warm cheek kissing it. “The police pulled us over and towed our car, they took our guns and shit to.”
“Foreal?” She asked. “That’s crazy.” She wobbled behind me.
“Why didn’t you answer the door or the phones earlier?”
“I was sleep, and you should’ve picked a better time.” She said. Like I said before, I couldn’t even be mad at her. The house phone rang causing us both to look at it crazy. “That must be Reesie calling this early in the morning.” Kish said.
I picked it up on speaker waiting to hear the recording, but I got Mya instead. “Hello? Meek? Where’s Kisha?” She asked with anger in her voice. I knew she was pissed about something.
Kisha grabbed the phone but left it on speaker. “What’s wrong with you Mya.”
“I’m so fucking mad right now I can break a bitch whole fucking face!”
“Why?” Kish asked confused, shit I wanted to know too.
She huffed. “Do you know this nigga had the nerve to let that bitch Brittany drop him off home? To the same fucking house, we live at together? Like what the fuck was he even doing with the bitch? I thought it was boys night out or some shit.”
I wanted to run in the fucking room and close the door cause I already knew Kisha was about to trip and the shit ain’t have nothing to do with me. Round number two was coming as soon as she hung up that phone. Damn Mya! Why she had to call here with that shit?
No matter what the fuck I said to Kisha, no matter how many times I told her that bitch wasn’t with us and explained exactly what happened, she didn’t believe me. In her mind, I used the Uber for a cover up and that wasn’t the fucking case. However, I was tired of arguing with her.
“I’m not doing this shit with you Kisha. I’ll be glad when shit goes back to normal after you have lil man. Shit, at this point I don’t even know what the fuck you want me to do!” I said getting out the shower trying to dry my fucking nuts off in peace.
She leaned up against the doorframe. “I want you to tell me the truth Meek, like seriously. I know I’m fat and ugly right now, but you don’t have to play these games.”
I looked at her and saw nothing besides natural beauty. “It’s too bad you feel like that. You’re beautiful.” I told her.
“Well, if I’m so beautiful then why are you entertaining someone else?”
I shook my head and walked past her. “You know what Kish? I love you too much to do this with you. I’mma let you have some time to yourself and when I think you’ve figured out that all I want is you…
I’ll come back.” I got dressed and grabbed my keys.
So much for some fucking sleep cause it didn’t look like that shit was happening.
“My ceremony is tomorrow.” She said.
I kissed her lips and left her standing there. “I’ll be there.”
It didn’t take long before I was in the truck and down the street, first stop was breakfast, next stop was to the liquor store and after that; I might think about going to the shop. I wasn’t in the fucking mood just yet.
