That was preferable to the ones who would get angry and create new accounts to harass her, but Victoria had learned her lesson on open DMs about 1,000 followers ago, so their options were limited. Men who were genuine, decent, and willing to listen to women were so few and far between online, which was how Luke had caught her eye in the first place. The rest of the girls approved of him too, and retweets of Cat-Luke were one of the most common features of her timeline.

Victoria opened up the group chat and scrolled back through the last few messages, mostly sent while she was at work. Kara was a writer and struggling with a stubborn character and Reiko was in a lull between meeting her clients, so most of the messages were Reiko helping Kara bounce ideas back and forth. Victoria loved knowing women from so many different professions and so many different backgrounds. Reiko, for instance, knew the court system intimately but in a very different context than Victoria, since her job as a social worker meant she was always in and out of a courtroom. Maddy was the fourth leg of their little crew, but she was deep into her psychology graduate program and staring down the barrel of a committee meeting on her progress next week, so she was probably going to be radio silent for a while.

Victoria made sure she was caught up with everything they’d discussed while she was at work before starting to type.
