Page 42 of Falling For My Assistant

They had been hiding out in her apartment for the last two days, enjoying one another’s company.

They had bingedSex and the City, Erin discovering, to her horror, that Sean was Team Aidan instead of Team Big.

There had been a long argument about the merits of Big versus Aidan and had ended with them agreeing to disagree.

“Carrie’s fashion has always been out there,” Erin said, her gaze moving to her phone when it rang.

“Who is…” her voice trailed off, but she picked up her phone and answered, her jaw dropping.

Sean’s brow arched high, setting his coffee cup down on the table.

Is it them?He mouthed, and she nodded.

The conversation lasted a couple of minutes, and then she hung up, tears welling up.

“I got it,” she whispered, setting the phone down. “I got the job!”

She tackled him with a hug, his laughter joining her excited squeal.

“I’m so happy for you,” he said, taking her head in his hands and kissing her. “And very proud.”

“Thank you,” she replied, swiping at the tears.

“You know what this means, right?” he asked.

“What?”

“It means you aren’t going to be my assistant anymore, so work won’t be an issue,” he replied, his hands sliding underneath her cardigan.

“That’s true,” she said, laying her hand on his cheek. “I’m a little sad I won’t see you every day at work, though.”

“You can see me when you get home, no problem,” he replied, leaning up to kiss her, the kiss warming them both.

“Oh,” he said, pulling away from her. “Hold on a second.”

He set her back on the couch and got up, heading for the doorway. He came back into the living room with a big box, with Laurenza’s logo stamped on the top of it.

“What is that?” she asked, moving his cup so he could set it down.

“Take a look,” he said, shoving his hands inside the sweatshirt.

She untied the ribbon, anticipation making her hands tremble. Tugging it off the box, she struggled with the top. Sean reached out and helped her, setting the top of the crisp white box next to them on the floor.

Black tissue paper filled the box, a small note nestled in the middle of it.

She picked it up, swiping at tears that started to fall. “To Erin, you’re going to kill it! Make sure Sean splurges on a nice dinner on your first day. Lots of love, Lo.”

Erin looked up at him, her eyes widening. “You didn't.”

He shrugged, unable to keep the smile from his face.

She set the note down and grabbed the tissue paper, tossing it onto the floor next to her.

“Sean,” she whispered, clasping her hand to her mouth. The custom purple suit stared up at her from the box, a set of matching gold and purple jewelry tucked neatly into the box with it.

She stood and came over to him, his arms coming around to pull her close as she cried into his sweatshirt.

“Thank you,” she said, swiping at the tears. “It’s such a wonderful, beautiful gift.”
