“Thank you,” she whispered, breaking the eye contact when she looked down at her hands.

He turned to her, and she looked at him. “I’ll be sure to give you a glowing reference. This party will be a fun story to tell.”

“I think I’ll leave the fake date out of it though,” she replied, distracted by Celine when she came back over to them.

“Miss Erin, I’m going to do your nails over here,” she said, pointing to the stations. “Did you want the same color on your fingernails?”

Erin grabbed the Sugar Spun color and handed it to her, negotiating her way out of the chair without falling over.

Sean pointed to his toes, and Celine nodded. He turned off the massage on the chair and slid the arm up, hanging his feet off the side while he grabbed his socks and shoes.

Fully dressed again, he came over to Celine’s station, with Erin seated comfortably in the chair.

“Is this gel?” Celine asked, pointing to her fingers.

Erin shook her head. “Regular polish.”

With quick motions, she removed Erin’s polish and got to work.

“So, tell me, do you have any New Year’s resolutions?” he asked, watching Celine work.

“Not really,” she replied, glancing at him for a moment before turning back to Celine. “I find that every time I make them, I never complete them. It gets old after a little while. You get a feeling of failure every time you don't complete it, and that can't be good for your mental health.”

“That makes sense,” he replied with a shrug. “I try to make a little one, just for the sake of making one. And they’re often pretty short timeline wise.”

He grabbed his phone from his pocket. “Last year, I resolved to take myself out for dinner once a week, for a month, just me. And I did.” He showed her the four photos, each one at a different place in the city.“It was a little way to show me some appreciation. Going by myself was great because I didn't have to entertain anyone or worry about the conversation.”

“That’s a great idea,” she said. “I might try that. Make a little resolution that’s for me.”

“I’m not sure what my resolution will be for this year, yet,” he replied, a few ideas tumbling around his head.

“I hadn't thought of doing one and seeing as how it’s New Year’s Eve, I don't know if I’ll have time to find one,” she stated, a pensive look on her face.

Lo joined them at Celine’s station, excitement on her face.

“That’s a beautiful color, Erin,” she said, looking at the bottle.

“Isn’t it? Sean helped pick it. You know how the colors can get sometimes.”

“I do. There’s another color that looks similar to this one. It’s called Russian… something,” she said, finger tapping her chin.

“Navy,” Sean quipped.

“Right, Russian Navy,” Lo said with a snap of her fingers.

“Sugar Spun had better sparkle, I think,” Erin said. She stuck one of her feet out and wiggled her toes, the blue sparkles shimmering through the polish.

“I love it!” Lo exclaimed. “It will work perfectly with that gown.”

Lo pinned a glance on Sean, her dark eyes sparkling. “Now, it’s time for you to go.”

“What? Why?” he asked, looking between the two women.

“Because I want the whole reveal to be a surprise. You don't get to see everything before it’s all put together.”

Lo reached out and took his hands, tugging him from the chair.

“Arrivederci, Sean. Erin will see you later when she’s fully glammed.”

“But Lo,” he protested, stumbling toward the elevator, Lo’s pushes helping him get there.

The elevator dinged, and she shoved him inside, waving goodbye as the doors closed
