Page 22 of Falling For My Assistant
“It’s a Laurenza De Lucio,” Erin stated, “Sean went to college with her. Imagine my delight when he told me she was available to assist me with an outfit! I couldn’t believe it. He held out on me until today.” She met his eyes. “Silly man, holding out on me.”
She is good at this. Maybe too good.
“You must come and talk to my friend, she will die! She loves Lo’s designs. Have you seen her new suit?”
Carol dragged Erin away toward a group of ladies, leaving him to talk to Donaldson alone.
Donaldson asked him a question about his newest account acquisition, and he replied, making small talk as he watched Erin navigate the group of women with ease.
She seemed so shy. I guess I didn't know her after all.
Unless it was all an act.
Then she is a great actress.
“Did you do those numbers for the new account yet?” Donaldson asked, drawing Sean’s attention away from the statuesque brunette.
“I did. They should be on your desk Monday morning. My assistant needed to finalize them before we sent them over to you.”
His brows furrowed. “Your assistant?”
“Yes,” Sean replied, shoving his hands in his pants pockets. “She finalizes everything and then sends it over to Kendall.” Sean looked at him, trying to gauge his reaction. “She has the necessary experience to handle it, and if there are any issues, she’ll let me know.”
“Necessary experience?” Donaldson asked, his hand coming to his chin. “Has she found any issues with any of our accounts?”
“She was responsible for finding that fraudulent company last year,” Sean replied. “She noticed a lot of the numbers were off and did some digging. She found all of the fake accounts.”
“Did she? That’s amazing. I wonder why she’s an assistant and not an associate.”
“I’m not sure there were positions open outside of assistant at the time,” Sean said. “I’ve selfishly not encouraged her to pursue other opportunities since she’s been such a wonderful assistant. I think that makes me a terrible boss.”
Donaldson slapped him on the shoulder. “Don't lose faith in yourself just yet, son. You still have time to fix it. She is still your assistant, after all.”
“She is that,” he said, his eyes moving back to her.
Erin now had a glass of wine in her hand, taking small sips every so often as she engaged in conversation with the rest of the ladies.
She glanced his way, and he smiled, her lips picking up at the sides when she smiled back at him.
Wrapped in that blue gown, she was a delight to stare at.
The dark dress hugged every curve, and the heels she wore accentuated her already long legs.
She shifted, and Sean got a glimpse of her bare leg, longing to touch the soft skin there again. His body stirred, and he tore his eyes from her.
“Sir,” a waiter said, distracting him with a silver platter. “Can I interest you in a delicious fried ball of cheese?”
“No, thank you, but if you could locate a drink for me, I’d appreciate that,” Sean replied.
The waiter replied that he would find the bar and headed through the crowd, stopping along the way to offer others one of the appetizers.
Mrs. Donaldson waved her husband over, and he laughed. “The mighty has beckoned.”
“Don't keep her waiting on my account,” Sean replied, stepping aside to let him by.
Erin stepped around Mr. Donaldson, coming to rejoin him, dropping the wine glass on a passing tray.
“You looked amazing out there,” Sean commented, a light flush blooming on her cheeks.
