The Chaos Continues…

For Rayna, it had been a damn good night. Granted, she was going to be tired today, but there was one thing that was going to make that not even bother her one, single bit, and that thing…

Caspian Carter.

Well, holy shit.

The man was something else.

When they fell asleep, it hadn’t been long before Beau woke them both barking. Assuming they would be going back to sleep, she’d cuddled down into the man’s body, and that’s when she felt it.

His erection.

Before she knew it, they were back on that wild ride, and she was cumming more than any woman could comprehend. Apparently, the first round was the warm-up round, and the following two, sporadically scattered through the next six hours were the main event.

And she was impressed.

Caspian had one hell of a libido, and whether it was from clean living, or just because his body was a well-oiled machine, she wasn’t complaining.

Her body was warm, lax, and completely relaxed after the three really great rounds of sex.

She was definitely grateful that Elizabeth had told her to buy him some dinner.

Because the man put out.

And out.

And out.

Now, she could tell that he wasn’t in bed anymore, and she wasn’t sure where he was. As she opened her eyes, she saw him and was caught off guard.

He was not far from the bed, standing on his head.

Literally.

As soon as she moved, his eyes opened, and framed by those dark, lush lashes, were the greenest, sexiest eyes she’d ever seen.

Shit.

This man made her want to do crazy things, like join him as he stood on his head.

That said it all.

When he smiled at her, that curve of his lip, and the merriment in his eyes made her want to purr like a well-sexed cat.

Yep.

She had a thing for a Vegan Marine who apparently had a kink for standing on his head at six in the morning.

Laying on the bed on her stomach, she put her chin in her hands and watched him.

“Is this a normal thing?” she asked. “Or did the sex break you?”

That made him laugh.

He couldn’t help himself.

“I start my day like this. I have to be on duty at seven, and I like to get my mind going early.”

She looked at her watch.

“I didn’t hear an alarm.”

Oh, well, there was a reason why.

First, Caspian didn’t need one. After years of waking up at the same time as a Marine, and working for the Blackhawks, his internal clock got him up at the same time. Secondly, he’d been watching her as she slept, and he was thinking about what they’d done.

First, he was leaving in a couple of days.

Next, they had unprotected sex.

Last, again, he was leaving in a couple of days. It bore repeating since it was stressing him out.

“I wake up when the sun comes up,” he admitted. “It’s just something I do.”

Rayna noticed he was completely relaxed, and he was using full sentences without having to think through his answer. That was a good sign for them.

What was also good was the view.

Jesus.

Christ.

The man had so many sculpted abs, it should be illegal.

“Do you do any other exercise?” she asked, as he began moving and inverted himself back upright again.

“Ivan makes us spar. Apparently, he thinks we need to be able to be ready for the worst-case scenario. You haven’t lived until you’ve gone a few rounds with Elizabeth in the ring.”

She stared at him.

“You’ve fought Elizabeth?”

He laughed.

“Unfortunately,” he said.

When he went to say something else, she moved quickly, yanking him down, and back into bed. Not only was his body in perfect shape, but his reflexes were too.

He rolled, getting her beneath him. As they were pressed together, she smiled up at him.

“This is better than coffee,” she admitted. “Since you were amazing last night, I’ll make you some before you have to leave,” she offered.

When she tugged on his ear with her teeth, it shot electricity through his body, right to his dick.

If he had an hour more, they’d be sweaty and rolling around all over again.

Caspian knew that leaving her in a few days was going to be damn difficult. He’d finally found someone who made him happy, and accepted his ‘intricacies’ and of course, they were going home.

That was just his luck, unfortunately.

When she touched his face, he focused on her, and she saw something in his eyes.

“You’re suddenly tense. Did I say something wrong about the coffee?”

He kissed her on the tip of her nose.

And was honest.

“I was thinking about having to leave. That’s all,” he admitted.

She didn’t want him to go. Already, she was feeling those strings of attachment binding them together. Rayna was feeling protective of Caspian.

She wanted to keep him safe, and with her so no one could ever hurt him again. It was crazy since he was a Marine, but she felt what she felt.

But she knew the reality of it all when they had sex. At some point, he’d get on that Blackhawk jet and leave. He’d never look back either.

There was no way she could be upset with the outcome since she knew that going in.

They’d done what they done, and now, it was about the aftermath.

“I’ll miss you,” she said, running her fingers across his cheek. “I hope you come back at some point, and I can see you again.”

There was such turmoil in his eyes.

Caspian knew he needed to figure this out, and fast. Maybe he could talk to Elizabeth, and she could help him work through this.

He loved his family, but there was something here that he’d never felt before. It was something he’d always wondered about.

“I want to make promises,” he said, “but we both know that would be disingenuous of me. What I can promise is that I’ll try to get back here to see you again.”

She understood.

“I look forward to it, Caspian. Before you go, come say goodbye, okay?” she asked.

He slowly nodded.

“I will. That I can promise.”

Kissing her, he wanted to stay in bed all day with her, but that wasn’t in the cards for him. Caspian had work to do. It was time to put on his other persona and get to work.

Breaking the kiss, he stared into her eyes.

“Will you be joining Elizabeth today?” he asked.

She smiled, despite that disappointment that their time together was fleeting.

“You’d better believe it. Do you think I’m going to give up a day where I get to watch you be all sullen in military black?”

He laughed.

“Sullen? I mean, silent, maybe, but sullen?” he asked. “For that, you owe me a cup of tea. I don’t do coffee.”

She stared at him like he had four heads, three eyes on each one, and was speaking in a foreign language.

“Wait. What? You don’t drink coffee?”

He nodded.

“Are you human? Have they verified it? Because you have a perfect body, like standing on your head, and don’t drink coffee. I can rationalize the first two, but the last…?”

He laughed and pushed off of the bed.

When he did, she saw his erection and licked her lips. The second she did, he took two steps backward.

“If we do it again, we’ll never get to work.”

She laughed.

“Sue a girl for having a sexy fantasy in her head. That’s your fault. That was some pretty hot sex, Marine,” she stated, getting up and walking past him to slap him on the ass.

It amused him, and that was something that also never happened.

He and the ladies…sex was okay, and basically just because of the basic needs.

Rayna had made it…different.

As he pulled on his things, she put her robe on to go make him tea. Rayna was debating between skipping the shower, and taking one.

She smelled like him, and that wasn’t the worst thing she’d ever experienced. In fact, it was one of the best things.

In the kitchen, she dumped some kibble into a dog bowl, and started the coffee pot. As she did, she put a kettle on the stove.

The whole time, she knew he was watching her.

Because he felt like it, and it was rare that Caspian got to take a moment for himself, he headed her way. When she turned, he lifted her up, and planted her ass right on the counter so they were closer to the same height. Then, he kissed her.

With all he had.

If Elizabeth solved this case in the next two days, like she was prone to do, these little moments would be all he had to remember her.

So he made as many memories as he could.

As he kissed her like it was the last one he’d ever be able to give her, she held on, and enjoyed it.

Until her damn dog started scratching at the door. Honestly, Beau had the world’s smallest bladder. When she broke the kiss, it was only because he was barking.

“Damn dog,” she muttered, staring into his eyes.

He nuzzled her cheek with his own.

“Get that tea ready, Rayna. I have to go play Archangel.”

She would.

Hopping down as he pulled on his shoes, she went to the door that was on her deck in the back of the cabin, and opened it.

And when she did, she gasped, stepping backward and nearly falling over Beau.

He wasn’t barking to go out.

No, he was barking because at some point in the middle of the night, someone had been there.

“Cas,” she said, standing there.

When he headed her way, he saw it.

Sitting on the doorstep of the kitchen door was a skull. It’s eyes were gone, and it was hella fleshy.

“I think I just found Thomas Adsila’s head,” she said. “And it’s sitting next to another bone whistle.”

Well, holy shit.

Now, Caspian was beyond worried.

He was betting this was going to blow up. Rayna was in danger.

And he didn’t like that.

Not.

One.

Bit.

One Hour Earlier

Six A.M.

Timothy’s Cabin

When Ethan woke up, he was disoriented. At some point in the night, two of his floor mates had disappeared.

Sitting up, he glanced over toward his mates who were both still asleep.

Gene was next to him, and Chris was alone. Which befuddled the hell out of him.

How did they get out of the treehouse if he and Gene were still on the trap door?

Where the hell were Elizabeth and Callen?

And his phone.

That was gone too.

That panic started to rise at his missing partners, and his body language must have alerted Gene because he came awake beside Ethan.
