They really didn’t have a lot, but she wasn’t giving them jack shit.
From beside her, she could feel Callen loosen up. He’d been tense.
“Oh, where is Lance Running Wolf?” she asked.
They shrugged.
“He should be here. He likes to wander around on the reservation. He says it clears his mind,” Tom admitted.
That was interesting too, since someone had shot arrows at her not that long ago.
“If you stay here, he’ll eventually show up,” Tom admitted.
Yeah, she didn’t have time for that.
Not.
At.
All.
“I saw that Rayna liked to hunt with a bow. Did Lance teach her?” she asked.
Tom nodded.
“He’s beyond proficient. So is his daughter. He is a good father who taught her.”
She tried again.
“And his son?” she asked. “Was Eli a hunter too?”
Tom nodded.
“Yes, he and his father hunted together all of the time. That was their hobby. Then, they’d donate a lot of meat to the other Natives who couldn’t hunt.”
And that made her think.
What if he wasn’t hunting humans, and his son was still around? What if he was donating the flesh? Because no one could eat a whole human in a day.
It grossed her out, but she had to go there in her head.
“Thank you,” she said.
When Callen saw she was done, he was grateful.
“Thank you for your help,” Callen said, holding his wife’s hand in his.
Abe was to the point.
“You need to get this wrapped up. Already, the people here are getting nervous. We’ve had complaints that the FBI is nosing around.”
Yeah, trying to save people.
Who complained about that?
WHO?
She was to the point.
“We’ll head out when we’re done, and not until then,” she said. “I’ll find who is behind this. It’s only a matter of time,” she added.
Yeah, she definitely wasn’t leaving before this was done. They wanted her gone, and that told her that she needed to not bail.
She needed to close this.
And be done with it.
As they walked out, she was quiet until they were outside the council house. Once there, she was curious.
“I need to think for a moment.”
Callen got them outside the door, and they took a seat on a bench where they could have privacy. Rayna, Takoda, and Gene weren't there, so they had to be wandering around.
“What’s going on in your head?” he asked.
Well, since he wanted to know.
“A few things,” she admitted. “Something hit me, CJ. We know that The Hollow is eating its victims, right?”
He nodded.
“How does two men eat a whole person in a day? When we found the newest bones, they’d been cooked and free of meat. That means…”
He lifted a brow.
“Oh, no,” he said. “You think what Tom said about Lance might be true? That he’s donating human flesh to feed Natives?” he asked, whispering.
She nodded.
“Where is the rest of Thomas Adsila? We know from what happened to my Mom, Sam, that he was fed to people.”
Oh, he was aware.
He still couldn’t stand the smell of chili.
“That grosses me out,” he admitted. “We have to find the rest of him.”
Oh, she was aware.
Elizabeth kept painting the picture.
“We had the mess yesterday, when I was abducted, and then Lance came out of the woods where Rayna was outside of this building.”
He let her talk.
“Then, he has a son who he conveniently insists he has no idea where he is. That he likes to live off of the land, and does weird shit.”
Callen waited.
“He and Wyler were friends with Jolon Tuttle and John Ankiti before they disappeared. The four of them ran wild, and then suddenly, he takes the high road and ends up on the council.”
Callen understood what she was saying.
“I need that DNA rerun, but I need it run against a cop’s.”
He lifted a brow.
She went there.
“Rayna’s DNA is on file because she was a cop. We need to run that with the DNA on the bone whistles and everything collected with trace.”
Now, he was concerned.
“You think the Chief of Police is behind this with her father?”
She shook her head.
“No, but I’m feeling twitchy, like I’m about to be blindsided. When that happens, I’ve missed something. In case this is Lance Running Wolf, I want to make sure we’re prepared.”
Okay, that he understood.
“If I hunt him down, and I ask him, he’s going to get bitchy. We know Rayna was a cop in another city, so we can avoid pissing her, and her father off—in case I’m wrong.”
She was right.
That would piss off Rayna, and Lance.
They didn’t need that.
“I’ll call Chris and have him handle that. Good call with not poking that bear. Uriel is smitten, and we do come back here. It’s a bad idea to hassle the local law, and council.”
She was aware.
“I just hope that we don’t find out that Lance Running Wolf is behind this. She’s not going to like that I’m gunning for her father.”
Yeah, no, she wouldn’t.
Then again, who would?

Waiting On
The Boss
Near The Cars
While they had some downtime, they were taking a break. Ivan was doing calls, making sure everything was okay back at the cabin.
He’d found out that Wyler had a confrontation with Lance Running Wolf not that long ago, and for now, he was inside with Caryn, and they were upstairs in their bedroom.
He didn’t need to know what they were doing.
Wyler was a Blackhawk.
What shocked him this trip to the reservation was that the other Blackhawks weren’t making giggling noises and trying to hump each other.
That tended to be the norm in this world.
Security REALLY didn’t need to hear it or see it. It was like finding your sister in the back seat of a car instead of at church.
It was gross and icky.
Truthfully, he was sure they would be back to their normal antics before long.
Four horny men didn’t stay inactive for long. All Ivan hoped was that they were behind a gated wall when the tomfoolery began.
Call him crazy.
But this was stressing him out.
Not far from him, Uriel and Rayna were whispering to each other, and the big man was leaning against their ride. Then, he actually pulled his com out of his ear, and opened the blacked-out ride’s door.
They got in.
Jesus.
H.
Christ.
What did a guy have to do to not watch others wanting to fornicate at all moments of the day?
When Gene saw him frowning, he laughed.
“What now?”
Because misery loved company, he pointed at the vehicle and where the two people had been.
“If that vehicle starts rocking, I’m dragging an Archangel out by his ear and sending him to the cabin.”
Gene snorted.
As did Takoda.
“I mean, it’s not like our vehicles haven’t seen action before,” Koda admitted. “My mom is an animal.”
That made Ivan laugh.
Because it was true.
“And if you think back, Elizabeth did tell Uriel to guard the lady. He’s just being REAL literal,” Gene admitted.
Ivan sighed.
His world was batshit insane.
“Next, Gene and Ethan will be disappearing. I shouldn’t complain. I haven’t had to hear shit I shouldn’t over vests or earpieces for a good week.”
That was true.
Oh, but it would be back.
Bet.
On.
It.
“You owe us one,” Gene said, as he saw Ethan’s vehicle arriving with another Archangel behind the wheel.
Raphael and Ethan were on scene.
When he got out, Gene headed toward his sexy doctor. They had some time, so he was going to be lecherous.
It was how he rolled.
“Cover your ears,” he suggested. “I’m about to lowkey dirty talk my husband because this is technically our honeymoon.”
Ivan sighed when Gryphen started rocking the vehicle that Uriel went in.
There was laughter from inside, and all of it from the Archangel who knew what they were doing.
As Gene met his mate, he wrapped his arm around his waist, and touched his face with his free hand.
“Hey, handsome,” he said.
Ethan grinned.
“Well, if it isn’t my new husband. Don’t think I don’t miss out on the leering, ass slaps, and general dirty comments.”
Oh, well, he put his lips beside his ear, and left his com on so Ivan had NO choice but to hear it.
And it was wild.
“Jesus. H. Christ. And you go to church you freaking pervert?” Ivan said, appalled. “What the hell?”
Gene just grinned as Ethan blushed. That woke both of their bodies, and with good reason.
As if timed perfectly, they heard the other family pervert.
“Did someone call me?” Callen asked, as he was escorting his wife back toward the group.
Blackhawk laughed.
Mostly because they were all perverts, but now, he was thinking about what Gene had proposed, and he was intrigued.
How could he not be?
As Elizabeth approached, she was staring at Ethan to make sure he was okay.
He seemed fine.
And since Gene’s hand was on his ass…that told her all she needed to know.
By some miracle, they were holding it together.
“Okay, team,” she said, updating them with what she’d just found out with the two interviews. “I talked to Elkie, and I talked to two-thirds of the council. Lance was MIA.”
Ivan updated her.
“He had a talk with Wyler, and then headed off. That was probably an hour ago. He’s off in the woods doing Native shit.”
“Where’s Wyler?” Elizabeth asked, wanting to keep all the chicks accounted for until this was over.
Ethan shrugged.
“I haven’t talked to him,” he admitted.
Ivan shared.
“He’s with Caryn,” Ivan said. “Michael said they went upstairs, and he backed out of the house. Demeter is on the patrol, and he is on the front porch with Muriel, keeping an eye on things.”
That worked for them.
At least someone was having sex.
They certainly weren’t.
Elizabeth updated them.
“Where’s the Chief of Police?” she asked.
All of security pointed at the vehicle.
“She’s inside with Uriel,” Ivan said.
Oh, well…
She’d not open that door.
Instead, she’d pretend she didn’t know that, and update them. Takoda suddenly had a little notebook, much like Gene used, so she was betting he was learning from ALL of them.
“Well, Elkie didn’t tell me much about her boys that we didn’t know, other than they live above the bar. She also taught them to hunt with a bow.”
Everyone knew why that was pertinent.
“How about we have something to eat here, and discuss?” she asked.
That worked for them.
