Story: Rescuing Barbi
I growl through gritted teeth and stalk toward the men, driven by a savage thirst for blood. Darkness rises within me, an unstoppable rage ready to exact retribution for a woman I barely knew.
I tackle the pimp first.
“Silvie didn’t deserve to die.” I snarl as we grapple, our bodies slamming against a cold brick wall. The pimp fights back. His men join in.
But there’s no stopping the fury that drives me.
I lay his men out on the street, one by one, barely breaking a sweat as they fall. When the pimp realizes he’s alone, fear replaces his arrogance as my hands close in around his throat.
“P-please…” His eyes widen as he gasps for air.
“Too late for that.” With one final surge of strength, I silence the man forever.
The pimp’s lifeless body crumples to the ground, and I stand over him, chest heaving. The fire of revenge extinguished as quickly as it ignited. A text comes through my phone. A summons from John Snowden, a man whose soul is blacker than mine.
Snowden: I’ve got a job for you. A man I need you to break.
A hollow emptiness settles within me, leaving me more lost than ever before. My dark urges flare to life. If there’s one thing I’m good at, it’s dispensing pain.
It’s in breaking others.
And I need that right now. I need to embrace the monster I’ve become.
Me: On My Way.
I hit send and get ready to do what I do best.
“You don’t have to let the darkness win, you know. There’s always a chance to change, to be better.”Silvie’s words echo in my head, but it’s not true.
My sole purpose is to make others suffer.
