“Hmm,” Vi murmured. “Maybe my dad is right. Do you not want to marry me?”

Cory’s eyes widened and she smiled. “Yes, well, we haven’t talked about it. Do you see marriage in your future?”

Vi smiled. “I see you in my future. You are my future. Yes, I’d love to be married to you someday. But this isn’t a proposal from either of us. We can do better.”

Cory giggled. “Yeah, we can. But Violet,” she said tenderly, “our future is beautiful.”

“Oh, baby. Just like you,” Vi said, bringing her lips to Cory’s and kissing her softly. As most of their kisses did, this one quickly became heated.

“Do you think your parents can hear us?” Cory said in a hoarse voice.

“I can be quiet, can you?”

Cory answered her with a kiss that radiated desire through Vi’s body. She felt Cory’s hand slide under her shirt and she forgot all about proposals, weddings, and marriages. All she felt was love for her Corrine.

“It was nice having your parents here this weekend,” Cory said. “I think they liked me.”

“Liked you? They love you, honey, just as I do,” Vi said. “I had told them so much about our up and down relationship, but you know what? My mom kept telling me: ‘You like this girl, hija, don’t you think you could be friends? Be nice to her,’” Vi said, imitating Josie’s voice.

“Be nice to her?” Cory laughed. “Oh wait a minute! The day of the volleyball game you told me your mom was praying for me! I remember that now!”

Vi laughed. “I asked her why she’d be praying for you and she said she was praying that I wouldn’t be mean to you.”

“You were never mean to me,” Cory said, pulling Vi down to sit on the couch with her.

“I tried to be, but I just couldn’t do it,” Vi said in a frustrated voice. “It’s these lips.” Vi kissed Cory sweetly. “I wanted to kiss them and now I get to and I can’t get enough.”

Cory giggled. “These lips love you.” She tugged Vi closer and kissed her deeply. Cory eased down on the couch and pulled Vi on top of her. “How about we stay right here and make out all afternoon.”

“I’m up for that,” Vi said, pressing her lips to Cory’s once again.

Cory’s phone began to ring where it sat on the coffee table. “Don’t answer it,” Cory mumbled.

Vi reached for it and looked at the screen. “It’s Ella. You’d better get it.”

Cory connected the call. “Hi, Ella. I’ve got you on speaker with Violet.”

“Oh good. I don’t mean to bother y’all on a Sunday, but I think I’ve found you a house,” Ella said.

“Oh yeah?”

“Yeah, would you want to look at it today?”

Cory smiled at Vi and shrugged.

“Yes, we can look at it today,” Vi said.

“I’ll text you the address and meet you there. Is now okay?”

“Yep, we’ll see you there. Thanks, Ella.” Cory ended the call and looked at Vi. “So much for making out all afternoon.”

“Come on, babe. This won’t take all afternoon.”

“And then we can come back here and pick up where we left off?”

“Absolutely. Hey, thanks for being so nice to my parents this weekend,” Vi said, standing up.
