Story: Cory Sloan is Swearing
“What a beautiful day,” Melanie said.
“I knew this would be the perfect spot today,” Krista said. “That gentle breeze stirring just enough so it’s not too hot.”
“Mmm, this is delicious,” Vi said, taking a nibble of ice cream. “Is it peach?”
“It is.” Krista grinned.
“What an amazing dance,” Melanie said. “I thought this was your first date?”
“It is,” Cory replied.
“You two looked like you’d been dancing together for years,” Krista said.
Vi chuckled. “Cory told me she could salsa—”
“And I don’t think she believed me,” Cory said, bumping her shoulder into Vi’s.
“I believed you, but I had no idea we’d be that good,” Vi said, gazing at Cory. “Where did you learn to salsa?”
“Well, there was this girl…” Cory began
“It’s always a girl, isn’t it?” Krista teased.
Cory laughed. “It wasn’t like that. Back in my bartending days, there was a waitress who taught a few of us how to salsa. After we closed the bar for the night, we put the music on and danced. It was so much fun.”
“She taught you well,” Vi said.
“Where did you learn, Vi?” Melanie asked.
“From my parents. They taught me and my brothers when we were kids and I really enjoyed it so I kept dancing.”
“I haven’t danced with anyone in a long time,” Cory said.
“You were great.” Vi looked over then squeezed her hand.
“As long as you were leading.” Cory grinned.
“That was so much fun. I haven’t danced like that in a long time either.”
“I told you long ago that you could trust me, Violet.”
“I know! I know!” Vi said with a laugh.
“They remind me so much of us, when we first met,” Krista said.
“Minus the age gap,” Melanie said.
“What age gap? That never bothered us. They remind me of how in tune we were to each other from the beginning,” Krista said.
“Because of that dance?” Vi asked.
Melanie nodded. “Among other things. But,” she said as she leaned on Krista and stood up, “we’ve got to go.” She held out her hand for Krista to get up.
“She’s right. We are not intruding on this very special first date any more than we already have,” Krista said.
“But you have given us an idea for the next group that comes to Lovers Landing,” Melanie said. “We can dance on the beach under the stars.”
“That’s a great idea,” Krista agreed. “You two will have to join us.”
