Story: Cory Sloan is Swearing
“What? No, Mom. I can buy the dress.”
“What about a wedding dress? I think we’ll be shopping for one soon,” Josie said with a smile.
Vi looked at her mother, surprised at first, but really, it wasn’t that far fetched. “I haven’t imagined my wedding since I was a little girl, but then I found Cory. I want to marry her someday,” Vi said wistfully.
“Why wait?” Josie asked.
Vi raised her brows in astonishment. “We haven’t even talked about it.”
“Don’t you think she wants to marry you?”
“Well, yes. I mean, we want to be together forever.” Vi shrugged. “We never spend a night apart.”
“Then get married. Let’s look at wedding dresses,” Josie said with excitement.
“Mom, we have to get engaged first.”
“Ask her.”
“Uh,” Vi scoffed. “Slow down.”
“Why? You and Cory certainly haven’t taken things slowly.”
“Does that bother you?” Vi asked, narrowing her eyes.
Josie shook her head. “I was a little concerned at first, but you sounded so happy on the phone.”
“And now?”
Josie smiled. “I’ve met Cory and I think you’ll have a happy life together.”
Vi sighed with relief. “Oh, thank you, Mom,” she said, hugging her.
“It’s obvious how much she loves you and supports your choices.”
Vi knit her brows together. “What do you mean, my choices?”
“Just that she supports your career goals.”
“Why wouldn’t she?”
“You seem very happy working in the store with her.”
“Oh,” Vi said. “I am, but Cory knows it’s just until my promotion comes through.”
“She told me that, also. But she enjoys you being there, too.”
Vi smiled and tilted her head. “Okay, Mom. I get it. I now understand why you and Dad liked working in the store together. I’m sorry I was such a little brat about it when I was younger.”
Josie smiled and patted Vi on the back. “Thank you for saying that, but more importantly, I’m glad you’ve experienced it with someone you love.”
“I do love her,” Vi said with a smile. “Hey, let me change. There happens to be a shop where they sell wedding dresses a couple of doors down. Maybe we could just walk through.”
Josie nodded and grinned.
Once they paid for their purchases they walked into the dress shop and began to look around.
“Cory’s sister, CeCe, just got engaged not too long ago,” Vi told Josie. “The day after is when Cory and I went on our first official date. I asked her out that night, but CeCe was popping the question and they had a little surprise engagement party after that.”
