Story: Cory Sloan is Swearing
“I am so happy for you. The romantic Sloan sister has been romanced.” CeCe laughed. “I’m swooning for you, sister!”
“Don’t say anything when you see her. We haven’t actually said the words yet, but I’m in fucking love!” Cory looked to the ceiling and spread her arms out wide.
“When will we see her?” Cat asked.
“I don’t know. She’s coming by to see me after work.”
“We’ll be on our best behavior,” CeCe said, giving Cory a grin. “However, I do remember you telling Alexis I had a crush on her right back there.” CeCe pointed to the back room where Cat’s sex toy store The Bottom Shelf was located.
Before Cory could respond, the bell over the front door of the bookstore rang, indicating a customer was walking inside. All three of them turned their heads to the front of the store.
“Hey,” Elena said. “Am I interrupting a family meeting?”
“Not at all,” Cory said. “Come on in. It’s nice to see you.”
“It’s nice to see you, Cory. When’s your next volleyball game? That was so much fun last week,” Elena said.
“We have another game at the end of the week.”
CeCe stood up. “I think I have your favorite chair.”
Elena chuckled. “Do I come in here so often that you know where I sit?”
“Being Cat’s favorite customer has perks,” Cory said. “We’ll get out of your way.”
When Elena had walked in, Cory saw the delight on Cat’s face. Maybe Cory wasn’t the only Sloan sister who was falling in love.
“See y’all later,” Cat said. “I’m really happy for you, Cory.”
Cory and CeCe left the bookstore and before Cory walked into the liquor store, CeCe stopped her.
“I’ve seen the way you and Vi look at each other. It was just a matter of time for you both to let this happen. I’m so happy for you, big sister. Being in love is the best!”
Cory sighed. “It is. I’m a little nervous to tell Violet.”
“I’m sure you are. It’s scary to be vulnerable, but I have a feeling it will work out for you. Hey, why do you call her Violet?” CeCe asked.
“Why do you call Alexis, Lex?” Cory replied. “Violet is a beautiful name and I love how it feels when I say it. She also happens to love hearing me say it.”
CeCe nodded. “Good for us.” She glanced over to the bookstore. “Now, if we could just get our little sister to see what we see.”
“I know,” Cory said, following CeCe’s gaze.
Cory went about loading her pickup for her morning deliveries. She and Vi had texted last night and again this morning. She hoped Vi was having a good day and couldn’t wait to see her again.
Later that day, Cory looked at her watch and knew Vi should be off work by now.
“Are you waiting for someone?” CeCe asked as she made herself comfortable on one of the stools at Cory’s bar in the back of the store.
“What are you doing here?”
“Alexis isn’t home yet, so I thought this would be a good time to have a beer with my big sister,” CeCe replied.
“That’s nice,” Cory said, pouring CeCe a beer. “I don’t get to see you as often since you and Alexis fell in love.”
“I can’t wait to get home every day,” CeCe said, taking a sip. “Has Vi come by yet?”
Cory was staring at the front of the store. It took her a moment to realize CeCe had asked her a question. “There she is now.”
