Page 27 of Uprising
“Rose.” I say looking at him.
And the face he pulls says everything.
“Where is she?” I growl. My voice sounds hoarse, I can hear the strain from lack of use. Fuck, how long have I even been out?
I shift and I can feel something. There’s a tube in my cock. They put a damn tube up my cock?
“What the fuck?” I say lifting the blanket seeing where the catheter is coming out. Apparently I’ve been pissing like that then?
The nurse thankfully removes it as well, and though I don’t watch, I can feel as it slides out. Fuck, I never want to experience that again.
And then my eyes snap back to Ben. He moves further into the room, sinks into the chair, he looks broken, he looks like he’s been to hell and back.
“What the fuck is going on?” I ask.
“They took her. Her and Sofia.” Ben says. “And Lara too.”
“Who?”
“Darius.” Ben replies. “They raided the house, killed everyone they could find.”
“Darius has my daughter?” I repeat not quite registering everything he’s saying.
“He has Rose as well. And Otto has Sofia.” Ben states.
I clench my fists, my anger surging. “How the fuck did this happen?”
“They laid a trap and we fell right into it.”
I’m out the bed before I know it. My adrenaline is spiking and in truth my body is too weak to hold me but I’m lashing out, smashing the shit out of the concrete wall.
Darius has Rose? Darius has my daughter? I shut my eyes and I can see it, the fear in Rose’s face as if I was there, as if I was witnessing that awful moment when she realises I failed her.
Ben grabs me, pulling me around and in my fury I almost punch him in the face.
I blink, heaving, trying to calm myself. My legs are shaking worse than ever. Christ I’m weak. Pathetically weak. I realise as he holds me that he’s the only reason I’m not faceplanting onto the floor.
“Where am I?” I ask.
“We’re in the tunnels.” Ben says.
“Tunnels?”
“From the old city. It’s the only safe place we could find.”
I know of the tunnels. I know of their existence. But as far as I knew it was off limits to everyone except the Storm Crows, a motorcycle gang that would soon as gut you as anything else.
When I state that fact Ben gives me a look I do not like.
“What?” I ask.
“It is off limits.” He says. “We made a deal.”
“Who?” I ask.
“Me and Holden. We were the only ones to survive. Everyone else is dead.”
“Why the fuck would the Storm Crows make a deal with us?”
