“He drugged her.” I state.
“Do you know what with?” He asks.
“GHB.” I murmur staring down at her, at where she’s unmoving with her eyes shut. Her chest is rising slowly, her upper body is almost entirely exposed. I hate that’s she’s on display like this and I pull my jacket off wrapping it over her, covering her.
“Roman.”
I turn looking across at Hastings and he pulls me away, forces me to leave her, muttering about how the doctor has it sorted.
I scowl at him but he doesn’t seem to care. Instead he walks to where Darius is lying dead, but his blood is still seeping out.
“I guess you got your wish.” He murmurs.
“And what is that?” I reply.
He looks up at me. “Revenge.”
I shake my head. Yes I wanted that, yes I needed that but I hadn’t planned on it going down this way. I hadn’t planned on Rose ending up like this.
“I’m taking it from here.” He says quietly.
“What does that mean?” I ask.
He looks back at Rose. At where she’s still laid out. “I understood your intentions, your drive, but this is the end. No more backstreet justice you hear me? I’m Governor now. This ends my way.”
I narrow my eyes stepping in front of him, blocking him from her. “What more do I need?”
“Sofia?” He says. “You don’t want justice for her?”
I gulp. “Maybe if I was a better brother I would have done that.” I state. “I would have hunted everyone who hurt her down and made them pay. But ultimately Darius was responsible, he was the one who fed her to the wolves.”
He lets out a sigh dropping his gaze back to Rose. “He was a sick son of bitch especially considering who he is, who they are to one another.”
My stomach lurches. I don’t know why. It shouldn’t matter and yet it feels like another betrayal. Another of Rose’s secrets laid bare for everyone to pick over and enjoy.
“You figured it out then.” I reply. She did ask him to run the DNA, I guess he got curious as to who’s it was.
He shrugs. “I had to know who his daughter was.”
My eyes widen. My stomach drops at the word.
Daughter?
He narrows his scanning my face, clearly confused by my reaction. “You didn’t know?”
“She told me they weren’t…” I trail off staring at where the doctor is shining a light in her eyes.
“Maybe she didn’t want you to know.” Hastings murmurs.
“Why the fuck would she hide that?” I growl. Why would she hide anything from me?
He tilts his head. “Would you want the man you love knowing you fucked your own father? That you married him?”
I don’t know how to reply to that. I don’t think I have any words.
“No one else will find out.” He says quietly. “No one else will know. I’ve already destroyed all the records so there’s no evidence of it.”
I nod feeling numb. Feeling so damn confused. He pats me on the back then walks away, leaving me to my own thoughts. Leaving me stood here, useless.
