Page 106 of Uprising
The door slams open. Light from the hallway streams in. I cover my face with my hands but I’m already being dragged out of the bed.
“What’s going on?” I gasp.
They don’t reply. It’s not Darius. He’s sent his guards to come get me.
And that makes me panic more.
I’m hauled down the stairs. My feet don’t even make contact. I’m held up purely by my arms.
And then I’m thrown into the centre of the room, onto the cold wooden floor.
My face slams into it before my hands can stop the impact. I lay for a moment, just taking in breaths, steeling myself for what is undoubtedly coming next.
When I look up I don’t see Darius.
I see Ty.
My head tilts, I frown as I take him in. He’s covered in blood. One of his eyes is so swollen up it’s black with bruising. He looks like he’s lost teeth, there’s blood smeared from his mouth and his hands, they’ve broken his fingers, every single one is at a horrific angle.
“What have you done to him?” I gasp, crawling, reaching out to cradle him.
Darius snarls, grabbing my hair, pulling me back as I yelp.
I blink up, playing the same part I’ve kept up these last days. “Darius?”
He smirks before glancing at my cousin and then to Otto who’s stepping out of the darkness clearly beaten up too. He’s limping. His nose looks broken and his lip is split. He turns his head, stares at Ty and then kicks him so hard in the head.
I scream trying to throw myself over him and once more Darius holds me back.
“Why are you doing this?” I ask as my tears begin streaming down my face.
“Why don’t you ask your cousin that?” Otto replies. “And while you’re at it, ask where my wife is.”
He slams another boot into him. This time I can hear as his bones break. Ty lets out a deep groan as he curls up into himself.
“Stop.” I gasp. “Please stop. You’re hurting him.”
“That’s the point Rose.” Darius says. “Your cousin thought he could switch sides, thought he could double cross us.”
“What are you talking about?” I say screwing my face up.
He lets out a laugh. “Oh please, you think we haven’t checked? There’s footage of it all over the internet. Ty here decided to play knight in shining armour and rescue Sofia only he wasn’t quick enough to not get caught.”
My face reacts, I look across at Ty who is clearly now in severe pain. Please tell me he didn’t decide to save her all by himself? It would be a suicide mission.
He meets my gaze then drops it.
“Ty?” I whisper.
“Sofia is safe.” That’s all he manages to say before Otto is on him again. Slamming his head into the floor till he’s spitting blood.
“Sofia is my wife.” Otto shouts. “She belongs to me.”
“No she doesn’t.” Ty shouts. “She was never yours.”
I get to my feet, my legs are shaking but I won’t let my fear get in the way of what I have to do. I place my hands on Darius’s chest, playing my part as always.
“I don’t understand what’s going on.” I say. “But he needs a doctor. He needs medical help.”
