“My walk of shame would be far more comfortable in clean underwear.”
He laughed. “Does that mean you accept?”
“Yes, Flynn, I accept your dresser drawer and closet space.”
Chapter 20
Flynn raised his eyebrows while he watched me fume. He had to know this was going to be an issue. Did he hope our sexual bout against his suite windows would lull me into doing his bidding? I was a woman in lust, but I was still me.
“I’m not wearing this,” I said, holding up the diamond-encrusted collar. “And I’m definitely not wearing those.” I pointed to his bed at the pair of diamond bracelets, one for each wrist. They resembled shackles. Diamond shackles were still shackles.
“Why?” he asked, trying to hide his smile and doing a terrible job.
“I knew I would have to pretend to be your chattel for the evening, but this is going too far. I wear these, then you really will think I’m your property.”
“I would never think you were my property.”
I snorted. “Yeah, right. Powerful men are collectors of things—and you are a collector of gorgeous women.”
He finally gave into a full smile. “Jealous of Lana?”
“Thin ice, buddy.”
Flynn laughed.
“You’ve already informed me that for tonight I’m to be seen but not heard.”
He sighed. “What will it take for you to wear them? What do you want from me in return?”
“I want you to tell me about your family.”
“No,” Flynn stated, all traces of humor gone from his face.
“Why?”
“I never speak of my family.”
I wondered if he’d ever tell me, if I would ever become a confidant, and not just his bed partner. I hated that he knew everything about my past and me. I hated that he knew how foul my brother truly was while I knew nothing of his family.
“You don’t have to wear the jewelry,” he said, turning away from me. “I’ll wait for you to finish getting ready.”
Twenty minutes later, Flynn escorted me to the private elevator. My auburn hair had been styled in loose waves, the black dress hugging every inch of me, showing a lot of leg, a lot of cleavage. Four-inch stilettos made my legs look even longer, and I’d painted my lips a dark red.
Flynn stared at my mouth and I grinned. “Wondering if I’ll let you smear it?” I purred, hoping to torment him. I enjoyed the darkening of his gaze, but he remained silent.
We turned heads as we walked through the lobby. A bellman opened the door and said, “Good evening, Mr. Campbell, Ms. Schaefer.”
Flynn’s driver held open the door to the black Rolls waiting for us. I slid in and Flynn swooped in next to me, purposefully invading my space. I tried to move away, but he gripped my hand and hauled me onto his lap.
“What the hell!” I hissed as the door shut.
“You’re supposed to be playing the role of devoted trophy.”
I glowered. “You’re pissing me off.”
“I noticed.”
He sifted a hand into my hair, and I couldn’t stop my eyes from closing. I adjusted myself on his lap, so the heat of me pressed against him. I felt his arousal and wanted to grind myself on top of him.
