“Have you seen Flynn Campbell? A man like that asks you to marry him and you say ‘yes!’” I said with a loopy grin.
“Actually, you say ‘hell yes!’” Shawna laughed.
“And to think—when you first started working at the club, you pretended there was nothing between you guys,” Alia reminded us all.
I wondered what they’d think of him if they knew about his political affiliations and the danger surrounding him. It would probably make them hotter for him. There was something taming a bad boy.
“Have you guys talked about kids?” Renee asked. She had a three-year-old daughter who was always caught on video doing really cute and funny things.
I nodded, feeling uncomfortable. They all looked at me expectantly as they waited for me to share.
“I don’t want to talk about it,” I said quietly.
Thankfully, they read the cues, and Alia changed the subject. “Who was that hot guy your best friend was with?” Alia asked.
I frowned. “When?”
“Last night. Ash was sitting in Mr. Campbell’s booth with a very handsome man,” Shawna said.
Oh, so they’d made it to the show after all. “An old family friend of Flynn’s,” I said. “Here for a visit.”
“He is hot,” Alia said, fanning herself. “Ashby Rhodes is one lucky woman.”
“You’ve got your own hot guy,” Shawna stated, referring to Alia’s fiancé who tended bar in the club.
“Are we done with the catching up?” Renee asked. “Can we go down to the spa now? I’m in need of a massage. Sophia likes to play ‘Ride the Horsie.’ My shoulders are killing me.”
“She’s too cute for words,” Jamie said.
Renee smiled. “Thanks.”
“I need a pedicure,” Alia said. “I’ve got some caveman toenails going on.”
“Not to mention wildebeest legs. You might want a wax, too,” Shawna teased. Alia tugged Shawna’s ponytail in a friendly manner.
They were all becoming friends outside of work, and I was really glad for them. “Let’s roll,” I said getting up off the floor.
A cell phone rang, and we instantly all checked ours. It was Jamie’s. “Boyfriend,” she said, holding up the phone. She stared at it a moment as if debating whether or not to answer it. Alia did it for her.
“Hello, Jamie’s phone, Alia speaking.” She listened for a minute. “Jamie is unable to come to the phone right now because she’s about to get a massage.” Alia hung up and then handed Jamie’s phone back to her.
“What did you just do?” Jamie asked in horror.
“Showing him who’s boss. Now, who’s boss?” Alia demanded.
“Uh, you?” Jamie asked meekly.
“No. You are!” Alia said with force. “Just because he calls doesn’t mean you go runnin’. Got me?”
“Got you,” Jamie answered.
“Good, now let’s go.”
Arm in arm, Jamie and Alia left the suite followed by the rest of us. We crowded into the elevator, and I hit the Spa button. Moments later, we spilled out of the elevator, and the girls followed me to the smiling receptionist who greeted me.
“Good afternoon, Mrs. Campbell.”
I didn’t think I’d ever get tired of hearing my married name. Call it old fashioned and antiquated, I didn’t care. I loved it. “Good afternoon, Charlotte. Are you guys ready for us?”
