Winters stood. “I’ll be in touch.”
I finished my coffee and then left. Jason followed me at a tactful distance until we got to The Rex Hotel. I popped into the burlesque club, waving to a few of my old co-workers, giving Jason time to catch up with me. The dancers were teaching a beginner’s burlesque class, and I watched from the corner for a few minutes, enjoying the eclectic turn out. A lot were young women in their twenties and thirties, but there were a few middle-aged women and some even older. They all were laughing and having a blast.
“Should we find Mr. Campbell?” Jason asked, sidling up next to me.
“We should,” I said, heading back out to the lobby, running into Lacey.
The burlesque club manager hugged me to her and said, “Hot damn, girl.”
“What?”
“Mrs. Campbell,” she said with a smirk and I laughed. “Is it too early for a celebratory martini?”
“Never,” I said. “But I’m actually trying to locate Flynn. Have you seen him?”
She paused. “When did you see him last?”
“This morning. Why?”
“Ah, no reason.”
“What do you know,” I demanded.
“I shouldn’t—you should wait for him.”
“Lacey—”
“I can’t, Barrett.”
We stared each other down. “I can’t just sit around and wait.”
Lacey put a sympathetic hand on my arm. “You have to.”
Chapter 35
Flynn didn’t answer when I called his phone. He didn’t answer when I made Jason call either. I spent the rest of the day in the penthouse suite, unpacking, rearranging, and trying to make it look like a home instead of a hotel room. I ate dinner by myself, refused all calls that came through, and waited.
And waited.
By midnight, I was exhausted from stewing. I was in deeper, married to a hotel mogul who wasn’t at all what he appeared to be, and I still felt left out. I fell into a fitful sleep sometime around one.
I woke up when Flynn crawled into bed next to me, wrapping himself around my body. He kissed my temple, and I settled back against him.
“You still have secrets,” I muttered.
“For now.”
“Don’t like it.”
“I know, hen, I know.” His mouth found mine, and I gave into him.
“Do you need me, Flynn?” I whispered against his lips, our skin heating, our breaths tangling.
He kissed me with fervor as if he was afraid I was slipping away from him. He slid into me, scorching me with love and desire.
“I need you,” he gritted out, his body taut and looming over mine. His hands framed my face, keeping our eyes locked on one another. In the faint moonlight streaming through the curtains, I could see his intensity.
I opened my legs wider so he could move deeper. His hands held mine over my head. Tears gathered in my eyes as wave after wave of pleasure hit me. With one final thrust, we both came. He collapsed into my arms, bathing my tear-streaked cheeks with his lips.
