“So are you.” His eyes drifted down my body, heating with each inch.

Whoops.

I was in a gray V-neck that barely covered the tops of my thighs. No pants.

“Help yourself to some coffee,” I muttered, feeling my face heat as I staggered in the direction of my bedroom. After I pulled on a pair of pajama shorts, I came back to the kitchen. Flynn had made himself comfortable at the tiny table that sat only two, a cup of coffee in front of him.

“I like how you look in the morning,” he said with a smile.

“What? Glasses, tangled hair, and morning breath?”

“I meant you in a threadbare shirt and no bra.”

I poured myself a cup of black coffee, sat down across from him, and purposefully crossed my arms over my chest. “A boss shouldn’t mention his employee’s lack of bra.”

“I’m not your boss.”

“What are you?”

“I’m not sure there’s a word for it.” He took a sip of coffee. “This is terrible.”

“Well, you don’t have to drink it,” I pointed out. “And I like it. Besides, you’re spoiled—living in a hotel.”

He shrugged and looked around. “My suite is larger than your apartment.”

“Thanks for the judgment,” I snapped.

“No judgment. Just an observation.”

We sat in silence for a moment while I managed to chug down some coffee. Then he said, “Are you happy? Here?”

“Yeah, I’m happy here.”

He nodded thoughtfully.

“What’s it like living in a hotel?” I asked.

“You feel like you’re always traveling. But at least my sheets are ironed.” He smiled, but it looked a little sad.

“Why don’t you get an apartment?”

“I spend so much time at the hotel it doesn’t make sense. Are you hungry? I wasn’t lying about taking you to lunch.”

When was the last time this man had had a home-cooked meal? I stood up. “If we go out, there’s a chance someone from The Rex will see us. Let’s stay here and I’ll cook.”

“You cook?”

I smiled at him on my way to the refrigerator. “You like ham?”

Flynn polished off the last bite of hisCroque Monsieurand grinned, looking boyish. I was becoming acquainted with his smiles, and this was a new one.

I liked it.

“Happy?” I asked with a smile of my own.

“Happy.” He wiped his mouth with a paper napkin. “Ready to talk business?”

“Yeah. Did you know there’s a huge divide between the dancers and the cocktail waitresses?”
