Page 91 of Princess of Bael
No wings. A barely beating heart. A soul so tarnished that his hair had turned white and his powers were nowhere near their former glory.
While I felt mostly fine, apart from our link tugging at my soul.
Would I eventually die without him? Or would I thrive?
Did I even want to know?
Ezra released a shuddering breath, his skin clammy. This wasn’t a trick. He was on the verge of death.
And he’d leave this world knowing he’d failed the balance.
It was such a poetic end, and yet, I couldn’t accept it.
He was mine to kill. Mine to punish. Mine tosave.
I stopped thinking.
I leaned over and kissed him.
If I found out this was all a ploy to use me to heal himself, I’d annihilate him.
Fool me once, shame on you.
Fool me twice, shame on me.
“Please don’t make a fool of me, Ezra,” I whispered against his mouth. “Now kiss me.”
Ezra
Kayla’s wordsflowed through me, her pain a visceral wound in our bond that pierced my heart.
I’d betrayed her so badly that she assumed I was using her again now. Yet her lips still met mine, her supple form pressing against me in delicious invitation.
Because she wanted me to heal.
I had no doubt in my mind that she would try to kill me again if I fucked this up between us. And if that happened, I’d allow it. I wouldn’t fight her.
She deserved so much more.
If I couldn’t live up to that potential, then I deserved to die for it.
Her tongue parted my lips, her warmth chasing away the chill in my spirit.
I returned her kiss, my fingers weaving through her hair to hold her to me. This felt like a dream again, so unreal and fantastical that I started to wonder if I’d already died.
Maybe this was my afterlife.
A world of Kayla, of lounging in bed and worshipping her with my tongue.
Mmm,that sounded like a solid plan.
I took charge of our kiss, emboldened by her touch and the energy swimming through her aura. It stroked mine, enticing me to consume my mate.
And consume her, I did.
I memorized every inch of her mouth, mastering her and telling her exactly what I wanted to do to her without uttering a single word.
She moaned, her palm cupping my cheek as her leg moved over my thigh to plaster herself to my side.
