“Add to that the possessiveness I’m feeling in regard to my mate, and, well, you can also understand that any extension of trust I may bestow upon you will be tentative at best,” Ezra continued, his tone holding a lethal edge to it that sent a shiver across my skin. Or maybe that was the result of his words.Possessiveness. Mate.“I would not recommend violating said trust.”
Zebulon held his gaze without so much as flinching. “Considering that Daniel is currently having an early dinner with my mates, whom I’m also very possessive of, the same could be said about the trust required for me to invite you into my home.”
Silence ticked by for a beat, the two males clearly measuring each other’s words. Or, more accurately, their power dicks.
I rolled my eyes. “How about you both whip them out, I’ll declare a victor in the size department, and we can move on with our business?” I suggested, looking at Zebulon before returning my gaze to Ezra. “We’re on a deadline.”
“Interesting that you didn’t mention that while in the shower earlier,” he returned, a spark of dark amusement glinting in the golden flecks of his gaze. “And the only one you’ll be measuring is mine, little heiress.”
His lips whispered across mine before I could reply. It lasted a second before he spun me around, placing my chest to his, and captured me with one solid arm. His opposite one stretched out, his hand palm up toward Zebulon.
However, his eyes were on mine, his lips lowering to mine as he said, “You can teleport us. I’ll hold Kayla while you take my hand.”
My eyebrows lifted. “Ezra—”
The world shifted before I could finish speaking, Zebulon having already taken the opportunity to whisk us through space.
Heat touched my senses, followed by a cool wave of energy from Ezra. His arm remained locked around me, but it didn’t feel like enough. Not with him being my anchor.
I grabbed his shoulders, my nails digging into his muscles just enough to let him know I wasn’t pleased with this manner of travel. He chuckled in response, his mouth still hovering near mine. I considered biting his lower lip, but a ripple of power had my cuff humming to life. Ezra flinched, the metal having likely zapped him as well.
Darkness swallowed us whole in the next moment, followed by a vibration of soundless electricity that sizzled across my skin.
Ezra’s hold on me never wavered, his tension rivaling my own.
Until it all stopped and a warm light graced our senses.
Followed by the appearance of a massive estate littered with demons.
They all bowed as Zebulon appeared, then tensed upon seeing me and Ezra. “Stand down,” Zebulon said, releasing Ezra to wave his hand at his demonic minions. Most of them were Dargarians, something that irked me after my last interaction with their kind. Ezra seemed just as uncomfortable, his body taut with tension.
“You realize I can take care of myself, right?” I asked, trying to wiggle away from his death grip.
“I do,” he replied. “But we’re stronger together than apart.” He threaded his fingers through my ponytail and pressed his lips to mine in another quick kiss.
“I would say the possessive instincts wane with time, but I would be lying,” Zebulon said casually. “This way.”
Ezra grinned, releasing me, just to grab my hand and tug me along after Zebulon.
I only allowed it because my mind was reeling from his insane behavior.
“I’m the daughter of an Archdemon,” I finally said. “I… I don’t need…this.” Whatever the hellfirethismeant. I couldn’t pick a term. The one used in their conversation—possessiveness—seemed right, but it was deeper than that. He was acting like this behavior between us was natural. Like he truly owned me.
Yes, we’d bonded over the last few days.
But I still wanted to kill him.
Sort of.
Maybe.
I shook my head. It didn’t matter. We had a balance to fix first. Then I’d debate his future.
He threaded his fingers through mine, tugging me close to him. “Whether youneedit or not, I’m yours and you’re mine,” he whispered against my ear. “And now that I’ve tasted you, I’m never letting you go again.”
My eyes widened. “That’s not—”
He caught my mouth with his once more, his hand magically grabbing my neck and holding me in place right on the damn steps of the mansion. I pressed my palms to his chest to push him away, but his wings appeared in the next moment, wrapping around us in a cocoon of feathers and strength.
