Movement on the other side caught my focus as the bitch with the spiky black hair appeared. She’d been the one to call that shadow creature last time, and I suspected by the smirk on her face, she’d called the ones that had attacked me today, too.
I’m killing you first, I decided.
So you’ve promised,Ezra returned shortly.
Not you. The spiky-haired, bitch-faced cunt on the other side of the barrier.
Makes me wonder what kind of nicknames you’ve given me in the past,he drawled.
Right now? Funny Guy with a Death Wish sounds good.
Cute.
I know.
Don’t die.
Likewise,I replied as thunder erupted from the clouds.Ezra?
Scion is playing. He sounded a bit out of breath, his mental voice strained.
I glanced up to see the storm brewing overhead, then a shock of heat drew my attention back to the spiky-haired bitch. She stood only a few feet away now, her cuff lit up on her arm as she drew several runes over it.
The ground beneath me began to tremble, causing Yaz to curse at my back.
There had to be a better way to do this. Another side of this barrier that I could penetrate without the beings inside noticing.
But where?
An explosion knocked my feet right out from under me, sending me to the earth with an “Oomph” and a curse. The dagger was still in my hand, but I’d released the barrier.
And the bitch inside was grinning like a lunatic.
I glanced over to see a Cyclops heading right toward my guards.
My verybusyguards, who were currently engaged in hand-to-hand combat with a bunch of Dargarians.
Fuck.
I jumped up and charged forward with a flame already pooling in my free hand. I threw it right into his solitary eye, causing him to topple backward before he could reach Yaz.
This isn’t working, I decided, looking around at the portal and the sea of demons before me. The Nephilim were doing their best, but they were up against demons they’d probably only studied.
Demons that shouldn’t be in this plane.
Like Blood demons and Slithers and fucking Cyclopes.
I sent another fireball into a nearby giant’s eye, bringing him down before he could take on a trio of Nephilim.
I need wings, I thought at Ezra. Then I could attack this damn veil thing from the top.
A thunderous wind rippled around me half a beat later, nearly knocking me off my feet as shadows descended across the sky.
I spun to face that spiky-haired bitch just in time for her to blow me a kiss.Definitely fucking dying first.
Screams erupted across the field from Nephilim and demons alike—no one wanted to deal with the horde of shadowy creatures flowing down from the sky.
Kayla!Ezra shouted.
