Fucking prick.
What’s happening?Kayla asked softly, her presence in my mind instantly soothing some of my mounting ire.
Mietek just admitted to fucking with your cuff. Which meanshewas the reason you were weakened,I growled.
Why?
To force our need to bond. To heal my powers. To create the new Divinity.“Your cryptic mate is rubbing off on you,” I accused him.
He grinned. “I certainly hope so.”
“You wanted me to use her like a disposable toy,” I spat at him. “You all but told me to fuck her and leave her behind.”
“Words that I knew would inspire the opposite effect,” he replied dismissively. “I had faith in you to follow the right path.”
“Unbelievable,” I muttered, running my fingers through my hair.
Bael stood by with an unreadable expression. “It was a wise play,” he finally said. “A dangerous one. But a wise one.”
Mietek shrugged. “As I said, I had faith in Ezra.”
It almost sounded like a compliment, but I was too infuriated to accept it as such.
“What does this new Divinity mean?” Scion asked, his sword still pointed at Zerak’s neck. His gaze was on the male below as well, but the question was clearly for Mietek—the giver of cryptic information.
“Only time will tell,” Zerak murmured.
Scion’s gaze narrowed. “You’ve lost your voice in this discussion.”
“Have I?” the Archangel of Time asked. “You forget my place in all this.”
“You lost your place when you got caught fighting for the other side,” he reiterated.
Zerak grinned, the expression oddly chilling in his silver-gray features. “I wonder how that happened, hmm?”
Scion’s hand flinched against the sword, causing the tip to draw a dangerous line on Zerak’s skin. “Careful, Archangel of Time. I wouldn’t suggest pushing me right now.”
My brow crinkled a little, surprised at Scion’s slip of anger. He usually maintained a perfectly calm facade, his strategic ability counteracting his violent side.
But he appeared ready to kill Zerak right now.
The justice dweller in me agreed that the punishment fit the crime.
However, I wanted more details first.
“Take him back to Heaven,” Mietek instructed. “Imprison him. We’ll interrogate him properly before we decide his fate.”
Scion didn’t immediately move, some sort of silent conversation flowing between him and Zerak.
Then he slowly lowered his sword. “Come with me willingly, or face the consequences.”
Zerak blinked. “An interesting proposal, considering I’ll be facing consequences regardless of my choice.”
“You attempted to take down the veil,” I reminded him. “You deserve those consequences.”
“Did I attempt to take down the veil? Or did I merely choose a side to fall on?” he asked, those eerie gray eyes finding mine. “It’s all about survival, right?”
My brow furrowed, his words dangerously close to Ashmedai’s comments. Either he hadn’t been as unconscious as I’d thought and listened to our conversation, or there was a connection between the Archangel and the Archdemon.
