Because apparently my dad “missed” me. Whatever that meant. He’d spent both visits issuing various tests to measure my growing power.
Ezra had claimed that Bael just wanted to teach.
I remained undecided on that assessment.
“Stop thinking about your dad and focus on your footing,” Ezra chastised softly, his mind always in tune with mine.
I would have hated this easy connection only months ago, but I found myself rather enjoying it now. Because I was just as connected to him.
Which was why I trusted him to lead me now.
He had a surprise for me.
Something he’d been working on.
Something thatexcitedhim.
However, he was doing an excellent job of not giving it away in his head.
I could easily push down the barriers he’d put up, but I didn’t want to spoil his fun. So I allowed him to maneuver me through the hallways.
He pressed a kiss against the back of my head as his hands rotated me again.
By my estimation, we were near the kitchens.
Or maybe his library.
It was definitely outside of our quarters, as we’d begun this journey in our bedroom, and we’d walked too far for this to be in our personal wing.
“Almost there,” he promised, his voice low.
I shivered in response, the heat from his touch and the deep tone caressing his words two of his allures my body couldn’t seem to ignore. It made sparring with him fun, especially when he growled.
My thighs clenched with the reminder of him growling against my sensitive flesh only an hour ago. He’d made me come so hard I’d seen stars.
This life with him certainly had perks.
His tongue being one of them.
His skills in the kitchen being another.
We’d developed a rather peaceful existence, only occasionally bothered by imbalances that required my attention.
The trials for Zerak and Raziel were still in progress, time in Heaven moving at a snail’s pace. Ezra went up every few days for an update. Sometimes I joined him.
We hadn’t learned much.
I’d asked about how the powers broke through the shield, mentioning my suspicions of a fifth person being involved. Mietek believed it was probably one of the Archangels, or maybe even Morax.
I remained uncertain.
Which kept me on alert for potential tamperings with the veil.
So far, nothing out of the ordinary had happened. Just a few Nephilim playing with their enhancing powers on Earth. Luckily, the Dark Provenance seemed to have most of them under control.
“All right,” Ezra said, grasping my hips and pausing me midstep. “Stand right here.” He tugged me back a little and I obeyed.
A series of beeps followed, then a soft snick of sound that reminded me of a refrigerator door being opened. I frowned. “Did you make me dinner?”
