Page 84 of Princess of Bael
So I growled back.
We almost always fought in some way, and it seemed we were going to do it whilst naked.
Fine by me.
She dug her talons into my skin, scorching me with a quick flame, which I doused with ease beneath a wave of power that instantly cooled her inferno. A balance of power. A beautiful display of fire and ice.Our bond. Our mating. Our soul-deep connection.
She bit my tongue, then groaned as my blood entered her mouth. I allowed her to take her fill before saying, “You bite me, sweet princess, then I bite you.”
Which was one of my favorite parts of this fantasy—the blood exchange. It was what I needed more than anything else in existence.
But I didn’t want to sink my teeth into her tongue.
No.
I wanted flesh.
So I went for her breast, marking her in the way I truly craved deep down.
She screamed in response, her fingers threading through my hair to tug me away. I captured her wrists and pushed them up over her head to pin them against the bed.
“Ezra!”
I grinned, my mouth finding my mark to indulge in more of her blood before sliding down to take her nipple between my teeth.
She practically melted beneath me, the pain mingling with pleasure causing a strangled noise to escape her throat. It was more impassioned than I’d ever heard it, making this almost feel real. I groaned, the power flourishing between us stirring a sense of dizziness inside me. I almost felt weak.Wounded. A bit lost.
“More,” I said, kissing a path back up her body to her throat. “I need more, Kayla.” More blood. More taste. Moreher.
She whispered my name against my lips, her touch igniting with fire beneath my palms once more. This time I released her wrists and allowed the magic to burn me, welcoming her brand of pain, which only seemed to fuel her onward as her tongue stroked my own.
The little heiress was softening, giving in to my craving, allowing me to take control of my dream and drive us toward the ecstasy that awaited us both.
I pressed my lower half to hers once more, loving how her wetness coated my bare skin. It served as a welcome kiss to my shaft, urging me to take what I desired.
But I didn’t want to rush this.
I wanted to indulge in so much more than a quick fuck.
However, that deep sense of dread continued to prick at my nerves. Something felt wrong. I didn’t like it. I wanted to erase the danger and wrongness from the moment, to just exist with my mate.
“Ez,” she whispered as I started kissing a path down her neck. “Ez, we need… This isn’t…” She shivered as my teeth skimmed her throbbing pulse, her fingers threading through my hair again. “Not a dream.” The words came out in a rush, almost sounding more like a single word—notadream.
My brow furrowed, my lips continuing their journey back down to the mark I’d left on her chest.
It was a strange thing for her to say, but as I shifted focus upward to read her face, I saw the conflict in her expression. The glimmer in her gaze was just enough to give me pause.
“Not a dream,” she repeated, swallowing. “We’re in Heaven.”
I glanced around, noting the bright lights of my heavenly home—a home I hadn’t visited in over a century or so. “That’s how I know I’m dreaming.”
She shook her head. “You were stabbed. Holy blade.” Her grip in my hair tightened, her arm flexing as she pulled me back up her body. I went to engage my feathers, to use them to anchor me against her breasts, but I couldn’t sense my wings.
Another sign of this being a dream.
Yet that deep-seated ache of dread continued to pummel at my instincts.
Kayla pressed her palm to my chest, not to push me away but to rest just above my heart. “Here. You’re still healing right here.”
