He had joined me on the ground, his presence the anchor I needed to latch onto as I pulled the Divinity into me, dragging it away from that safe plane of existence and forcing it into action now.

We needed it.

It was the only way to repair the tears between the realms, the shredding of the veil, to break through that godforsakenbarrier.

I screamed, the fury pouring out of me on a wave of heat and flames to singe every threat in my wake.

Shadow beings shrieked at the abundance of light.

Do it again, Ezra said.Do that again right now.

My soul responded, the furious energy leaving me on a tidal wave of emotion that I’d kept bottled up for thousands of years.

Anger.

Fear.

Torment.

I’d spent my life as a Halfling being, only revered in my own realm because of my ties to the Archdemon who presided over the people there.

Everywhere else, I was shunned. Taunted. Laughed at.

Because of my human heritage.

But it was that mortal side now that grounded me in this plane, forcing me to protect it, to find that perfect harmony between the realms andmendthe breach threatening this plane.

Again,Ezra whispered, his voice filled with an awe I felt all the way to my soul as I shrieked once more, exploding with the power of the Divinity and demanding balance between the realms.

Sparks ignited all around me.

Growls.

Shouts.

Bloodcurdling screams.

I tried to see them, to understand, but it was too damn bright. Too much light.

No more shadows.

No more barrier, some part of me recognized, my mind seeking and finding the true threat lurking within.

Multiple beings with power that didn’t belong to them.

I growled, my soul demanding justice for their wrongdoings.

They’d stolen a divine power and used it to commit unspeakable acts, all with the sole desire to inspire catastrophe across the realms.

To realign the powers.

To make the human plane a war zone.

To take mortal slaves.

To ruin the glorious symmetry established between the crossing worlds.
