I actually felt rather weak.
Another bizarre sensation for a dream. In this world, I should feel every bit alive. In power.Dominant. My fingers drifted from Kayla’s hair to the back of her neck, my inner need taking over.
“I don’t want to fight,” I told her sternly. “I want to fuck you.” I grabbed the back of her neck, forcing her gaze to remain on mine. “You’re already naked and this is my fantasy, so we’ll do it my way.”
“Your fantasy?” she repeated, her eyebrows lifting as her soft breath feathered across my lips.
“My dream,” I whispered against her mouth. “My rules.”
“How often do you dream about me?”
“Every time I close my eyes,” I admitted softly, a bit confused by her questions. This was something she should already know since I’d created this scene in my mind. But maybe I had something to work through.
Or maybe it was a delaying tactic.
A new form of foreplay.
Similar to how her hair resembled a pretty reddish-brown color right now—a gorgeously new attribute. Silky, too.
I moved my hand once more, drawing my fingers through the soft strands. “So beautiful,” I marveled. Of course, she’d always been beautiful. Even with her old mohawk. “I wonder what you really look like right now.” It was a thought I voiced aloud because I could. I studied her facial features, noting the experience glowing in her caramel-brown gaze before lowering my attention to her full mouth. “I wish I could see you, and I mean really see you. I miss you.”
If only I possessed Bael’s gift for dreamwalking, then I could actually tell her that truth.
Although, I never would.
It revealed too much.
“You… you miss me?” she asked, her voice almost hoarse.
“You know I do,” I replied, grinning as I nuzzled my nose against hers. “I dream of you because I can’t have you.”
“Why can’t you have me?”
“You hate me,” I said, sure of it. “Rightly so. Or maybe you don’t remember me at all.” I almost disliked that expectation more than the other, but for her sake, I hoped it was true. “This was my torment to bear, not yours. But the most important reason is that I can’t jeopardize the balance.” I spoke those last few words slowly, my brow furrowing as a sense of dizziness touched my thoughts.
The balance.
It… it didn’t feel right. It felt… tipped?
Was this dream about to shift into a nightmare? It wouldn’t be the first time.
And why was I speaking so much?
These were all statements I already knew. Which marked this as a waste of time, especially if my fantasy was about to turn toward darkness.
“I want you,” I whispered. “No more talking.”
I captured Kayla’s mouth again, not wanting to miss the opportunity to embrace her before everything went to hell.
Her nearness, her touch, her heat, all sent a shock wave of energy through my system. It wasn’t real, and I’d soon wake to the coldness of my bed and the weakness of my depleting soul, but for these few moments in time, I intended to indulge in the precious gift of our bond. To be with my mate the way I should have been all those years ago.
“Fuck, Kayla,” I breathed, moving her to her back and rolling on top of her. She jolted beneath me, her nails biting into my shoulders as I pressed my aching cock against her slickening folds.
“Ezra, this isn’t—”
“No talking,” I repeated, my tongue dipping in to silence her.
She growled in response.
