She nods. “Thank you. I want him to find the killer. Do what you need for that. I’m okay with Security, but they need to tell me what’s going on. I’m pretty good at following direction. Beacon left and the others wouldn’t talk but stood in front of me when I moved.”
Jesus. “I’ll fix that today.”
“Thank you for what you did today. Was Ant Irma at the bar?”
I smile. “No, she’s looking good but at Rex’s with Ajhil. They’re going out on Saturday.”
“I’ll get some extra food ready for them.” She’s worried over food. Women are amazing.
“Are you going to be able to run this?”
She gives me her little smile. I kiss the right side that is raised up. “I don’t count me here as part of the crew. I cook and jump in, but I’m never in a counted position. I’m fine to work.” That’s smart. “I wanted to deck the guy that kept stepping close, thinking I was going to run I guess, but you’ll fix it and I’m here.”
I nod and stand up setting her down in front of me. “I need to talk to my Officers. I went off on them and expect I will again.”
Her eyes snap to mine. I shrug. “They’re determined to handle shit after the city fuck up but they’re not asking for the help they need. Today they missed shit that I know is second nature to them. They’re playing off everything like it’s okay and it could have cost me you. That is not a fucking option and I shouldn’t have to point it out.”
She shakes her head. “But you will.”
I kiss her head and walk her out. “Loud enough for them to hear it. I will.”
Her giggle has me smiling. My little goddess is cute.
Walking out the door puts me in front of my Officers and the Brothers I asked for. “Sharp, Beacon and Vick. Are you interested in Officer?”
I get yeah, Bosses and shit-eating-grins with puffed chests. “Get to HR and fill out the paperwork. You’re second tier Officers. Congratulations, Brothers. Falcon will have your new cuts tomorrow. You’ll be moving up soon. Vick, you’re working for Hade in Ops. Beacon, you’re working for Falcon. Sharp, you’re working for Hade, but it’s in training for Security until we’re fully functioning and Falcon takes it back over. Beacon, Seren is covered in Enforcers today. Consider your shift over.”
Thanks bosses come at me and I hug them all and watch them leave with smiles lighting their way. Looking back to my Officers, I’m not smiling. “Hardware.” Turning to the Enforcer team, “You're on my ol’ lady until I tell you to move.”
“Roger, Boss.”
We walk over and the Brother managing smiles until he sees I’m not. “Anyone here?”
“A few customers.”
“Get them out.” The Officers move to remove the customers. Turning back, I tell the manager, “Go get lunch, I need about an hour. If I’m done before that, I’ll lock up.”
He must see I’m not pissed at him. “I never get an hour. Thanks, Boss.”
Customers leave without their shit or complaints and I lock the door. Walking to the section of patio furniture, I can feel the tension from my Brothers. “Sit.”
They do and no one says a word. I pace deciding where to start. “Web, you have joyriders speeding through the center of town regularly?”
“One once.”
I nod and pace. “Did any one of you miss the meeting where I said I want the town covered in Security and at least one Enforcer team?”
“I did,” Banks says. The rest are no’s.
“Did we cut cleanup teams down and forget to tell me?” No one answers.
“Wasn’t ityou, my Officers, that sat me down two fucking weeks ago and explained the need for one ofyouto partner with me even when I’m not scheduled? And when the fuck did my schedule change and why wasn’t I told?”
Raid looks right at me. “Fuck. We’ve been slammed with shit and are fucking up.”
I blow. “All fucking week, I’ve been telling you to let me know if you need help. All fucking week, you’ve all been telling me you don’t. You’re joking aroundin fucking Opsand missing shit. All of you are. Jinx, what have you done to help Raid?”
“Nothing but cover a shift for him.”
