Malachi, came up beside him, “Dad and Papa are home, they’re bursting to meet your mate.”
Malek couldn’t help it. He glanced at Axel, “Good, I need Papa to check him out.”
“He knew you’d say that. Once he got the text telling him about Axel’s pregnancy, he had Dad packed and the plane on stand-by to go. He even had people here at the surgery bringing things in. No idea how he got it all in so fast and he said that there’s more stuff coming too.”
Malek grinned. Yes, he could see that. His parents were all about family, so he definitely wasn’t surprised that a new grandkid would have them come running.
“So what time are we…”
Before Malek could finish his sentence, he heard his parents coming up the road. Well, he guessed his mate was about to meet his parents-in-law.
Malek went to the passenger side of the car, and even though he didn’t want to wake his mate, his wolf was preening at the thought of introducing Axel to his parents.
“Angel, Angel, wake up,” Malek gently tapped his mate and held him as he woke up.
Axel's eyes opened and he yawned, looking around, “We’re home.” His eyes landed on Malek, they softened and his mate grinned. “Hey.”
“Hey love,” Malek kissed Axel on the forehead, “Ready to meet my parents?”
That seemed to penetrate, because Axel’s eyes opened wider, and he sat up straighter, looking from left to right, “They’re here? Where…”
“Come on,” Malek said, helping his mate down from the car.
Axel tried straightening his clothes when he stood, “Do I look okay? What if they don’t like me?”
“Oh love, you’re Malek’s mate, we couldn't do anything but love you.” Malek was so focused on his mate, his parents had snuck up on him and pulled his mate out of his arms.
Malek growled, and his dad raised his eyebrows, shooting Malek the same look he used to when Malek misbehaved when he was younger.
“Reflex,” Malek shrugged sheepishly.
His alpha dad, hugged him, “Congratulations son, and don’t worry that’s normal for the newly mated.”
Malek took his mate, back from his papa, “Papa, Dad, I’d like to introduce my mate, Axel Baines, now Whitfell.”
Malek’s wolf stood straighter, “Axel meet my parents, Maxim and Cameron Whitfell.”
Twenty-Two
Axel
Axel wasn’t prepared to meet Malek’s parents, in his mind, he’d built them up, people that live in Manors well… yeah, he’d been intimidated, but he needn’t have worried. First, the men standing before him were absolutely lovely. Malek’s papa had hugged him so tight, and whispered how happy he was to meet Axel.
Axel wasn’t sure he’d ever been so quickly welcomed in his life and it made him a little weepy. So, even though he’d been apprehensive about meeting Malek’s parents, spending time trying to imagine them in his mind, now that he’d met them, Axel realised he’d probably watched way too much Downton Abbey, because his mate’s parents were nothing like he expected.
Nothing at all.
When Malek said that they aged slowly, he should have been more specific, because his mate’s parents looked like they were in their late thirties, early forties max.
They looked like a beautiful wealthy couple, and boy, did they look amazing in their country casuals. Then again, he imagined they would look amazing in anything. His mate's parents were tall, dark and handsome.
Axel could see where his mate got his good looks from. Malek’s dad, Maxim was the spitting image of his mate.
Even though they fit the posh stereotype, their wide welcoming smiles proved that wasn’t the case.
That was when he realised that he was looking at two men. He looked at his mate, then his mate's parents, and he realised that one of them, he wasn't sure who, had given birth.
He looked between Maxim and Cameron trying to figure it out, but before he could, one of Malek’s dads, Cameron—Axel was pretty sure he was Cameron—took Axel’s hand and tried pulling him away from his mate. However, before Malek released him, he whispered, “I’ll be in soon.”
